Exploring the Léguer south of Lannion

Whilst the level of the Léguer, as it flows through Lannion, is influenced by the tides, further upstream, thanks to several retaining walls, the flow is much more steady. Moreover, the entire area is protected as it serves as a water catchment area for the region.
This route therefore offers an exploration of this coastal river, upstream of Lannion, with a return journey through the surrounding hills.

Description of the walk

Swimming pool and Sports Centre car park

(S/E) Leave the car park by turning right, then turn left at the bend. After 50 metres, take the path on the right. Follow it to the left to join Impasse Jacques Colebaut. Cross Boulevard Louis Guillou, continuing straight ahead. A wide path descends steeply to the Moulin du Duc industrial estate.

(1) Turn left, making a U-turn, and continue straight on along this path which runs alongside the Léguer. This wide path leads to a road which you take on the right to cross the bridge.

(2) After the bridge, turn left. On the opposite bank, to the left, you can see the Moulin de Buhulien. When you reach the pumping station, take the path on the right which runs alongside the Léguer. Continue keeping as close as possible to the river. Caution: some sections are prone to rockfalls.

(3) Leave the riverbank by taking the path on the right. It climbs quite steeply through the forest. After the first houses, continue along the road on the right, then after 150 metres turn left.

(4) Take the road on the right, then after 50 metres, take the path on the left. Turn left towards the hamlet of Kerfravel, which you cross, and continue on the right.

(5) At Goaz Elven, take the road on the right and continue first to the right, then left at the junction.

(6) Continue on the left, then, at Keralzy, follow the path to the right. Pass through Kerviziou.

(7) Turn right and take the right-hand track at the fork (private property on the left-hand track). Head down towards the river. Take the footbridge on the right.

(8) Continue straight ahead, then turn left onto Rue de Roud ar Roc'h. Cross the boulevard straight ahead, then take the first street on the right (Rue des Fontaines). Turn right again towards the Post Office, then turn left onto Rue Emmanuel Sieyes. Diagonally cross the square in front of the retirement home and continue to Rue Saint-Elivet.

(9) Turn right, then take the left-hand lane before the roundabout. Continue along Chemin d'Ar Sanite, then turn right onto Rue Fabre d'Eglantine. Turn right, then left twice to reach the Park Nevez roundabout. Take the street that runs alongside the swimming pool and leads back to the starting car park (S/E).

A lovely route with beautiful forest sections and stunning views.
A stretch along the Léguer, ruins, chapels.
Option to take a different route through the forest

Make sure you wear waterproof shoes as there is a lot of mud on the trail along the Léguer. The trail is hilly, so bring walking poles. There’s a peaceful atmosphere in the woods, with a variety of wild plants; at the moment, the daffodils are in bloom – admire them but don’t pick them!

A lovely walk, done in bright sunshine and a chilly wind in February, so the ground was very wet. We had walking poles, and I’d strongly recommend them to avoid slipping.
As for the route, no problems at all, except when you start leaving the Léguer as you head uphill. There are a few junctions there that you mustn’t miss.
I highly recommend it.
