From Baslow to Rowsley and Beeley

(S) Park in the carpark in Baslow and follow the road back around to your right until you see the sign at the bridge directing you towards the Chatsworth Estate.

(1) From Baslow enter the Chatsworth Estate grounds at the north end. Once through the kissing gate bear southeast immediately and climb gradually up the path through the woods that takes you to old hunting lodge overlooking Chatsworth House (2). From there follow the track for about 2 km past the Swiss Cottage until it emerges from the woods. The Derwent Valley opens up beneath you at this point.

(3) Bear southeast along the track which follows the ridge line and gradually descends to a vehicle track (4) Bear left here along this track as it skirts a wooded area until you come to a road, Beeley Lane. Just before this intersection to your right is a stile leading to path which descends into the woods. (5)Take this path bearing left where necessary to follow Beeley Lane, eventually emerging where a farm track intersects with Beeley Lane.

(6) Cross the road at this point and follow the farm track in a generally southwest direction until you get to Fallinge Farm (7) From here simply locate the track leading from the main farmhouse through some more woodland until it intersects with Chesterfield Road. (8) Cross the road and slightly to your left there is a path leading down the hill to the A6.

(9) Bear right and turn into the B6012 and head north for a hundred metres or so, Then, cross over and take the first road behind the shopping complex on the other side. This will take you down to a path running along the Derwent River. Follow this for about a kilometre until it emerges once again onto the B6012.

(10) Follow the road for a short distance until you locate a path on the other side running up the hill. Follow this path until it forks left above the road. Follow this path until it intersects with Chesterfield Road. Turn left and walk through the village. There's a pleasant, but somewhat expensive, pub here where you can have a drink before completing the last leg of your walk

(11) From Beeley rejoin the B6012 heading north until you come to a large track on the left hand side bearing northwest. Follow this to the bridge over the B6012, cross the river and immediately take the track along the west bank of the Derwent all the way back to your starting point at the other end of the Chatsworth Estate. Return from there to Baslow.

The tracks along the Derwent can be very muddy during the winter months.
