This route lies at the heart of vineyard landscapes. Vine growing was already the main industry in the Middle Ages, and these ‘clairet’ wines were enjoyed throughout France. The wines were transported by boat from the port of Saint-Georges-sur-Cher. The numerous vineyard huts or shelters remind us of how winegrowers organised their work in days gone by. These served as places of rest and shelter for the workers and their horses, who toiled from dawn until dusk.
