Dams and forest around Planfoy
Circular hike to the Gouffre d'Enfer and Pas du Riot dams, built under Napoleon III using stone masonry.
Admire the height of the conifers growing in these forests. The nearby Col de la République, also known as Col du Grand Bois, lives up to its name.
The route is mainly through woodland and is not difficult. There is very little tarmac road (only at the start and finish).
The Chemin du Tacot to the east of Pélussin
At the start and end of the route, this circuit follows the Tacot, a local railway line that connected the two sides of the Pilat Massif, the Loire and the Rhône, until 1930. Magnificent views of the Pilat Massif, but above all of the Rhône Valley and the Alps, with Mont Blanc visible on the left when the sky is clear. Most of the circuit is in the forest.
Golf du Verger circular in Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon
Easy country walk with a beautiful view of the Alps if visibility is good. Best enjoyed outside of summer as there is little shade.
From the vineyards of Côte-Rotie to Grand-Bois
The famous Côte-Rôtie vineyards, laid out in terraces supported by low stone walls, will enchant you at the start and end of this hike. The rest of the hike takes place in a rural and wooded setting, along good paths and a few sections of quiet roads.
Sumptuous views of the Rhône Valley, the Pilat Massif and the entire Alpine range (weather permitting).
On the descent back, the Château d'Ampuis will stand before you.
