Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 128 m - From the car park, cross over the road and head towards the track on the left-hand side of the high brick wall, you’ll see a public footpath sign directing you towards a wooden gate and enclosed path
  2. 2 : km 0.25 - alt. 128 m - Passing the poo bin on your left, continue along the path, with the tall brick wall on your right behind which is a dis-used garden nursery and horse paddocks on your left. Pass through a wooden gate into a field (where horses are sometimes out to pasture) and follow the trodden path diagonally towards a metal gate
  3. 3 : km 0.38 - alt. 127 m - Pass through the metal gate, (noticing another metal gate on your right leading into Lamer Wood, which you’ll come through on the return leg). Continue straight along the footpath with woodland on your right and farmland on your left
  4. 4 : km 0.58 - alt. 126 m - Pass through another metal gate, continuing to follow the edge of the woodland. The next metal gate leads into a large open grazing meadow, sometimes containing sheep, bare left towards another metal gate joining a narrow-enclosed footpath with lovely views on your right out towards more grazing pastures
  5. 5 : km 1.44 - alt. 123 m - After approximately 600 meters you’ll come to a cross path junction, (straight on leads to Ayot St Lawrence), turn right along an established track with farmland on either side. Continuing along this path, you’ll pass through a metal gate and the remains of Lamer Wood Golf Course on your left (which is now a privately owned estate)
  6. 6 : km 2.25 - alt. 124 m - At the end of the path, pass through a metal gate and turn left onto a single-track tarmac drive (on your right you’ll see the entrance gates for Lamer Park Farm)
  7. 7 : km 2.36 - alt. 124 m - Continue to follow the tarmac drive as it bends sharply right and passes Lamer House. The drive eventually leads downhill, just before the bottom, look for a right turn through a metal gate leading into Lamer Wood. The woodland is teaming with wildlife, at Easter, the wild daffodils spread a carpet of yellow either side of the path and a few weeks later turns blue with bluebells and white wood anemones
  8. 8 : km 3.57 - alt. 127 m - Exit the woodland through a metal gate and turn immediately left through the gate used on your outbound leg, finally re-trace your footsteps back to the starting point
  9. S/E : km 3.96 - alt. 128 m
