Description

Start : The Swan at Wybunbury, 2 Main Road, Wybunbury, Nantwich, Cheshire (CW5 7NA). Grid ref. SJ 659 818

(S/E) From the front door The Swan Inn, turn left through the gate next to the lychgate, then left again through a kissing gate by the St Chad’s Wybunbury information board and past an owl carved into a tree stump in the churchyard. Beyond a kissing gate, take the path straight on, down the bank. Bear left to pass a reedy pond and pass through a gateway beyond.

(1) Turn immediately left onto a permitted path into the nature reserve, negotiating a series of footbridges, gates, stiles and boardwalks. At a padlocked gate leading out to the open part of the moss, turn right over a footbridge, then right and left onto another boardwalk. Follow the narrow path through woodland over more footbridges and boardwalks.

You emerge via a footbridge and gate into open fields; follow more boardwalks until you exit the reserve at a kissing gate with an interpretation board. Turn left to a footpath junction, where you turn left again. Follow the path below a bank until you pass a gate and meet a driveway.

(2) Turn left past some buildings then, when the driveway bends right at the last house, take the path on the left below the front wall. This path leads shortly past another property (ignore a path up steps to the right) to a gate into another driveway. Follow the drive, with views over the Moss on your left, to a crossing path.

(3) Turn left through a kissing gate (“No cycling”) along a path running below back gardens. Beyond a wooden kissing gate, the path emerges onto a gravel driveway; bear right then pick up the signposted path along the edge of a large lawn to a further kissing gate.

Cross the top of two paddocks to a stile at the end of Kiln Lane, beyond which continue along the path ahead, passing a couple of brick buildings. The path beyond continues to the kissing gate by which you left the churchyard earlier. Turn right and retrace your steps past the tower back to the Swan Inn.(S/E)
