Parking is available at Weston Longville Village Hall, just to the East of the Church. There is a pub at Weston Longville, The Parson Woodforde.
(S/E) Walk through the church grounds then left onto the pavement. Cross the road at Church Farm Close and head south west.
(1) Turn right along the lane. After a few minutes, take the footpath to the left through a crop field. This turns into a track past fields of horses and a few houses.
(2) Where the track nearly meets a road, take the footpath ahead (not the one to the right). Follow this to a road, cross the road carefully as this can be busy, and walk along the inside field edge north until you reach a track on the left.
(3) Turn left along the track and follow this until you reach a farm. Although the OS map shows the footpath going through the farm, this no longer applies and the track skirts around the right of the farm then go through a small field to a lane. Cross over and take the footpath immediately ahead, follow this to the next lane.
(4) Go left onto the lane, around a sharp bend (ignore another lane to the left) and continue until a bridleway sign on your right.
(5) Follow the bridleway until it reaches a lane, turn left into The Street and follow the lane past more horses and houses until you reach the village of Lyng. There is a pub here - The Mermaid.
(6) Take the main road to the right, be careful as this could be busy. Follow this bend to the left (you can cross over to the pavement on the other side), and keep going over a bridge until you reach Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Sparham Pools. This area has signed walks and ponds and is good for birdwatching. There may be animals grazing so keep dogs on leads at all times.
(7) If you want to explore the nature reserve, follow the marked signs around the edge of the ponds.
(8) At the north end of the pond, turn left to retrace your steps back to the entrance of the reserve. (7)
(9) Turn left onto the road (looking out for traffic) and retrace your steps back into the village of Lyng.
(10) In the village, take the first lane to the left, and follow this past some houses.
(11) Continue along the lane to the left. Ignore the sign for a bridleway on the right. After about a mile, towards the brow of the hill lookout for a footpath on the right.
(12) Follow the footpath up the hill through the woods and past an enormous stone on your right. The path emerges onto a field and eventually reaches a quiet lane. Turn left and follow the lane for a mile or so until it goes downhill to a T junction.
(13) Take Easthaugh Road to the right, follow for half a mile (ignore the turn off to the left) until it reaches the main road. Be very careful, the main road can be busy.
(14) Cross Weston Hall Road, turn right and take the first footpath on your left. This takes you diagonally across a crop field. When you get the to hedge, go left along the hedge line until you reach another hedge and see horses and an exercising area ahead.
(15) Go through the gap in the hedge immediately ahead of you, turn right and walk beside the fields with the horses, up to the top of the hill.
(16) At the end of the area with the horses, continue straight ahead until you reach a crop field with a path going through it (the fingerpost is missing). Follow this until you see a lane immediately ahead of you. You are now back to paths you have already walked on the way out.
(2) Take the track to the left, follow this, then a footpath, until you reach a lane on the right, follow this back into the village and the main road. Follow the pavement on the left, cross over at Church Farm Close then follow the pavement to the church. Go back through the church to the Village Hall if you have parked there.
