Description

(S) Leave Bridge of Orchy crossing the bridge over the River Orchy (West) and heading North-West through the forest, climbing steeply along the Old Military Road around the northern edge of Ben Inverveigh.

(1) Past Màm Carraigh the path descends (North-West) to cross Allt Orain at the Inveroran Hotel. Turn left (South-West) and stay on the road as it weaves past the western end of Loch Tulla, crossing over Allt Tolaghan and Abhainn Shira at the Victoria Bridge.

(2) Head up (North-East) on the footpath and away from the loch (the Old Military Road climbs higher) to pass Drochaid Easain Duibh and cross a number of streams.

(3) At the top of the path, go past a wood Drochaid Doire Mhic Làimh on your right and another wood on your left just before Lochan Mhic Pheadair Ruaidh. Our route continues along the Old Military Road North to cross the River Bà at Bà Bridge.

(4) Carry straight on past Drochaid an t-Saighdeir and past Bà Cottage (off to the left). The path skirts around the slopes of Meall a' Bhùiridh to the left, at 1,108m above sea level with it's ugly ski lifts and paraphanelia. There is a detour to the Glencoe Mountain Resort but it's probably best to press on and leave all that behind. Go past Blackrock Cottage to cross the main A82 road and follow the river to Kings House Hotel.

(5) Cross over the River Etive and turn left (West) along the road. Before reaching the A82, bear off right (North-West) to climb gently up the lower slopes of Beinn a' Chrùlaiste, at 857m above sea level. The Old Military Road hugs the base of the mountain, running parallel to the main road until it reaches Altnafeadh. Go through a small wood up to the right (North) following a stream Allt a' Mhain, along a path that gets steeper and zig-zags up Devil's Staircase to reach the col between Beinn Bheag and Stob Mhic Mhartuin.

(6) The path descends to cross a stream Allt a' Choire Odhair-bhig and then climbs around the base of Sròn a' Choire Odhair-bhig. A number of zig-zags takes us down to cross Allt a' Choire Odhair-mhoir then left along the flanks of Maell Ruigh a' Bhricleathaid up to the left. Bearing further South-West the route passes a sheep pen and then crosses Allt Coire Mhorair below a reservoir. Still on the Old Military Road, the path leads through a wood to reach a pipeline heading down the valley. Cross this and the River Leven, turning left on the other side to follow the river round to the left to reach the B863 road. Turn right to walk into Kinlochleven. (E)
