Hest Bank to Carnforth back by Lancaster canal

Dog-friendly circular walk starting from Hest Bank following the coast to Carnforth village and back by the Lancaster Canal. Lovely walk with views on the Irish sea and Lancaster Canal.

Hest Bank beach

Description

Start: The Shore Car Park, Hest Bank, Lancaster (LA2 6HQ) Grid ref. SD 468 66

(S/E) From the car park take the Lancashire Coastal Way path along the beach shore in the direction of Carnforth (North) (going opposite to the train station). Continue straight walking on the beach shore for around 1.5 Km (leaving Morecambe lodge Caravan park on your right hand side) until reaching Red Bank Farm.

(1) Leaving the farm on your right hand side, continue straight on the beach shore still following the Lancashire Coastal Way path for around 1.2 Km until arriving at a car park and reaching Mill Lane.

(2) Passing the small car park, take left on Mill Lane. At the next intersection of roads (Mill Lane with St Nicholas Lane) take left and continue straight on that road until reaching a camp site.

(3) Do not enter the camp site . Continue on the Lancashire Coastal Way path (taking the path on the left of the camp site going again on the beach) for around 2.5 km until reaching a car park and Shore Road.

(4) Take left on Shore Road in the direction of Carnforth. Continue on that road until the intersection between Shore Road and Warton Road.

(5) At the intersection, take right (South) on Warton Road to go in the direction of Carnforth center. Continue on Warton Road until arriving at the intersection with Market Street.

(6) Continue straight on Market Street (B6254).

(7) Just before the bridge crossing the Lancaster Canal, take the path on the right going down Bridgeside playground and reaching Lancaster Canal footpath. Continue along the Lancaster Canal footpath all the way back to Hest Bank town passing Bolton le Sands town (around 6 Km).

(8) Leave the Lancaster Canal path at Hest Bank Lane bridge. Take right on The Crescent road, then right on Station Road. Continue on Station Road until reaching the traffic lights, then continue straight on The Shore road until reaching the car park. (S/E)
