Zandvoorde and the village’s history during the 1914–18 war

A circular walking route starting from the car park at Zandvoorde Church. The route follows the theme ‘2014–2018 – 100 Years of the Great War’ and tells the story of Zandvoorde during the First World War. The village occupied an important strategic position due to its elevated location on the central ridge of West Flanders. The exceptional view of the surrounding area, combined with the German defensive line, prevented the liberation of Zandvoorde until the Final Offensive of 1918.
