Description of the walk

Start: Start from the car park next to the "Assiette au Boeuf" restaurant on the corner of Avenue de Flandre and the D144.

(S/E) Leave the car park and thread your way behind the GR® marker to reach a large wooded path. Go straight ahead, heading East-South-East, on this path for 200m. Continue along the same path for 300m. You are now in Warwanne Wood (which can be mushroomy). Leave the track on your right and continue straight ahead.

(1) Take the path along the left bank of the Marque. Admire the Château de la Fontaine on the other bank. Continue along the path, which makes a wide semicircle for about 300m, and you'll come to a gate which, when ajar, allows pedestrians to enter and leave the wood.

(2) At the end of the wood, turn left in a northeasterly direction onto the tarmac track that crosses the bridge over the Marque and zigzags up to the east gate of Château de la Fontaine.

(3) Admire the lions and the view onto the château, then retrace your steps.

(2) Don't go into the woods (note the sign authorizing pedestrian traffic). Continue straight ahead on the "Rouge de Fontaine" path, heading south-west. Turn right between the houses onto a road that leads to Rue de la Fontaine. Immediately turn right onto Rue Hoche, which is more of a footpath.

(4) Turn right into Rue du Recueil, then right again into Chemin des Cottages, which becomes Avenue des Cottages. Turn right into Rue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny and find the car park at the end of this street (S/E).

The restaurant L'assiette au boeuf is closed, the starting address is 98 avenue de flandres, Villeneuve d'Ascq.
You can get there by tram, Jean Jaurès stop, or by car.
The start of the walk is not very well signposted: when you leave the car park, you have to turn right and immediately take the path in the woods.
The route can be very slippery, so bring suitable footwear.
Otherwise, it's a great trail!

The starting point was difficult to find, as you wouldn't expect to see a forest in Wasquehal town centre. A pleasant little 3.5 km forest walk, but be careful not to get lost as there are several possible directions. At a bend in the path, you can see the magnificent château owned by the Mulliers family, now reserved for seminars. A breath of fresh air in an urban centre.

The Bois de Warwamme itinerary is very green, tranquil and rejuvenating.
The name of the restaurant has changed; L'Assiette au Boeuf has become "Valentina". This is not an obstacle.
The small path at the start is not easy to find, but you get there.
It's a very pleasant walk, but the signs are not immediately obvious.
What's more, the upkeep leaves something to be desired: trees have been falling across the path for some time now, and paths to bypass obstacles seem to have been in use for a long time...
A very pleasant moment, but one that would benefit from better signposting.

This green bubble is a great find to walk around for a good hour! The Château de la Fontaine remains a well-kept mystery! (Private!)

The name of the restaurant has changed to Valentino Ristorante. The car park still exists.
Nice little walk in the middle of town.

Hello,
I described this tour in November 2017 during a visit to cousins who still lived in LILLE. Since then these cousins have moved to Brittany and I no longer return to LILLE or its region (which I loved very much for years).
So I can't update the description of this tour and I'd like someone else to take it over if possible.
Sincerely
Pipanrin

The name of the restaurant has changed, only the indications of boulevard and departmental road (intersection) have enabled me to find the starting point.

Thank you dear visorandonneurs.
As I no longer have any family ties in this beautiful region, I'm afraid I won't be doing it again myself.

We set off as a family, wearing good shoes (boots for the little ones and hiking boots for the adults) and everyone had a great time. I have to say, the kids and our pooch really enjoy the mud, so the forest was a real treat. Then there's the castle and the lions, all very pretty. And the route is short, which is great with our little ones, who are walking and/or being carried...
We'll happily do this walk again!

Thank you for your feedback.
The tree has indeed been removed since I published it.
I'll try to correct it, if I have the rights.

"(1) Go around the tree to the left" we didn't see a tree but we still found the path (straight ahead )

Otherwise it was my 1st use of visio rando with this circuit, it was nice! Thank you

I'm as happy as you are to be able to share corners of nature in the midst of urbanisation, which is still all too sterile.
