Wallsee - Melk

Second stage of a cycle tour on dedicated cycle paths along the Austrian Danube with the aim of travelling from Linz to Vienna in four stages.

The route is flat and without any notable difficulties. Traffic on the cycle paths varies depending on the location, but can be quite heavy on the outskirts of towns and villages.

The region is very beautiful and the landscapes are bucolic. Austrians are very friendly and always willing to provide information and help. The food is excellent, from salads to pastries and simple sandwiches, so don't hesitate to enjoy it.

Description of the route

The starting and finishing points are hotels or lodges used by cyclists. The route follows easy-to-follow cycle paths, as signs marked "Donauradweg" (Danube Cycle Path) are present along the entire route.

The route is dotted with small, friendly restaurants catering to cycle tourists. However, they are closed when the weather is bad.

Departure from Wallsee, a charming little port town.

You will cross the right and left banks of the Danube several times via bridges or hydroelectric dams that can be crossed by bike.

Arrival in Melk with its magnificent abbey. The site is impressive and a visit to the abbey is a must. The town is very touristy with its shops and welcoming restaurants.
