Ufford Heritage Trail

A walk around the village of Ufford.
Ufford is rich in heritage and well worth exploring. The Heritage Trail was created in 2006 and leads the walker around the historic features of the village including the village stocks, water meadows and the many listed buildings. The Highlight of the trail has to be the church which has an unusual dedication to St Mary of the Assumption and contains the second largest font cover in England which is a sight to behold.

Description of the walk

Start: The Crown pub, Ufford (IP13 6EL) Grid ref. TM 292 527

(S/E) From The Crown pub, walk North-East along High Street then take Byng Hall Road opposite on the left and after 200m look for the footpath on the right.

(1) Go straight over the road (B1438) and continue down the footpath by Vale farm. This emerges on Spring Lane where another footpath leads off on the opposite side of the road. Follow this through to where it emerges opposite East Lane.

(2) Continue past the houses on East Lane until you find a footpath right which leads across the meadows to the church.

(3) On the southern side of the church a footpath leads through to the lower street opposite the White Lion pub. Turn left along the road that leads out of the village to Aldgate Meadow and Ufford Bridge. After enjoying the bridge, return back up the road.

(4) Then as the road bends around to the right, take a left into Ufford Place and follow this around to the right and out onto The Avenue.

(5) Turn left and follow The Avenue until it meets woodland on the left. A footpath leads through the woods and out onto a residential road. Continue up the road, then straight across at the junction, past the nursery on the left and out onto the B1438.

(6) Turn right and follow the road back (North-Esat) to the Crown. (S/E)
