The hike starts from the Deauville-Trouville SNCF train station.
(S/E) When you leave the SNCF building, turn right, cross the roundabout and then the Pont des Belges bridge over the Touques river to reach Trouville. Immediately after the bridge, turn left and walk along the harbour towards the sea. There are often a few fishing boats moored there. After passing the fish market, leave the Touques river on your left as it flows around the casino and continue straight on to Rue Carnot. Turn left onto Rue de Paris and continue to the main beach.
(1) From there, turn right and walk along the beach to Honfleur. It is important to check the tide times before setting off so that you can enjoy the stretches of sand uncovered at low tide, which are easy to walk on.
On the large beach at Trouville-sur-Mer, you can first take the boardwalk and then the seafront to the sailing club if you don't want to walk on the sand straight away.
After the sailing club, you have no choice but to walk on the beach along the cliffs known as the "Roches Noires" for a distance of 4 kilometres. After the Pointe du Heurt, which marks the end of the "Roches Noires", the beach curves slightly and the houses overlooking the sea indicate that you have arrived in Villerville, a small family seaside resort opposite Le Havre.
(2) Walk along the cliff on which the houses have been built, pass by the lifeguard station and the sailing club, and continue towards Honfleur.
Beyond Villerville, the beach is no longer bordered by cliffs and, 900 metres after the Villerville lifeguard station, you will come to a group of four or five blockhouses. Sixty metres after the last two, on your right, there is a small staircase leading to a path that takes you to the village of Criqueboeuf, 600 metres from the beach. There is a very pretty church to see, with ivy covering part of its façade.
From the entrance to the village of Criqueboeuf to Honfleur, the beach is fairly straight, bordered by pastures and dominated at the end of the route by the Côte des Grâces, which indicates that you are not far from Honfleur, as the town is on the other side. After Vasouy Beach, you arrive at Butin Beach, which is Honfleur's beach, bordered at the end by the Jardin des Personnalités. This is where the walk on the sand ends, as you have reached the entrance to a channel.
(3) Walk along the channel to reach the heart of the port city and the Church of Sainte-Catherine at the entrance to the Vieux Bassin (S/E).
