Start : The Swan, Compton (RG20 6NJ) Grid ref. SU 521 799
Driving to start: About eleven miles from Newbury via the A34 which turn off SP Compton and East Ilsley, and bear left in East Ilsley to reach Compton in two miles.
Refreshments : After being called the Foinavon for some years, it has reverted to the Swan. A largish pub/hotel, it provides a good menu every day, with a very good-value Seniors' lunch Mondays through Wednesdays.
