The seven lakes of Colomèrs circular

The Colomèrs lake circuit is a massif of mountains arranged in a circle, protecting some fifty lakes ("estanhs") in its bosom. The slow erosion of frost during the Ice Ages has left an inescapable landscape: a high mountain area with high, steep peaks of around 3,000m, such as Creu de Colomèrs, Gran Tuc de Colomèrs and Tuc de Ratera.

Description of the walk

Start: The most direct access to the refuge is around 2 hours from the Banhs de Tredos car park, 8km from Salardu (Val d'Aran). In summer, a shuttle bus leaves from this point to drop you off 3.5 Km further on. Outside the summer months, the trail can be taken to a parking area (cab).

(S/E) From altitude 2000 (upper car park, one of which is reserved for the refuge warden), take a wide path (Refuge de Colomers).

(1) At the wooden bridge, take the right-hand path leading to the Colomers dam.

(2) Cross the dam, pass the old Colomers refuge and reach the new refuge on the left (elevation 2137).

(3) Leave the left-hand path around Lac Majeur de Colomers and continue uphill. At the collet, leave the right-hand path and follow the Lac Mort to the left.

(4) At the next junction, take the left-hand path (Circuit des 7 lacs) down to Lac des Gargalhes de Baish. Continue right over the small wooden bridge, then stay on the main path (circuit des 7 lacs).

(5) After a small pass, descend to Lac de Cabidornats.

(6) After a short climb, stay on the right-hand path until the next fork, then take the left-hand path along the left bank of Lac Long. Then continue on the left-hand path upwards.

(7) Descend towards the dam, where you'll find the uphill path again.

(2) Turn right and follow it to the car park (S/E).
