The Milibern - Magherahoney

This walk starts and finishes at Altarichard car park on the Altarichard Road; it is also known as the Milibern Walk (the other is the Breen Forest Walk). This is a scenic upland route that takes in the summit of Croaghan. The Trail is located within the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Description of the walk

Start : Altarichard Car Park, 28 Altarichard Rd, Armoy, Ballymoney (BT53 8XT).
This is a way marked trail.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left to walk along Altarichard Rd.

(1) After 480m or so, make a right turn (North). After a short distance, you will see red and blue way marks on your left. Follow the blue arrows for the Milibern Trail. These will lead you uphill to the summit of Croaghan from which there are spectacular views.

(2) Past the summit, the Milibern Trail veers to the right (East), leading downhill into Breen Forest.

(3) After a short distance the Trail meanders through another section of upland heath before dropping into Altarichard Forest.

(4) Turn right and pursue your walk into the Woods of Altarichard.

(5) On leaving the Forest make a left turn, and a quick right turn along Altarichard Road back to the car park. (S/E)

Facilities : Car park, picnic and viewing area.

Dog Policy : May be livestock on the open hill areas and walkers should be aware that they may encounter game shooting in the Glenshesk valley area which may cause disturbance to dogs.
