Description

(D/A) Leave the car park and walk along Marine Terrace with a river on your left.

(1) As the road ends, continue on the footpath and past the public toilets, turn left on Beach Road.

(2) When you reach the bridge, turn left and cross it then immediately turn right into Zetland Row. Walk straight ahead with the river on your right.

(3) Look out for a footpath on your left small round sign Cleveland Street Walk. Go up steps, aiming for the corner of the field with a transmitter on your left.

(4) Cross Hummersea Lane and continue straight ahead.

(5) At metal sign post turn cross stile and turn left to continue to another stile in corner and turn right on the road. (NB OS map shows path going diagonally across field). Continue along road to the second footpath on your left.

(6) Turn left, continue along the field edge, cross fence and turn half-right and continue with fence/ wall on your right.

(7) Continue straight on Coast Path at the junction.

(8) When you see the trig point, turn right to visit and then return back along coast path

(7) Bear right down hill, and return towards Skinningrove via the coast Path.

(9) Descend the steps to Beach Road, follow road across bridge and then turn right at public toilets to return to the car park (D/A)

This stretch of the England Coast Path joins the quiet village of Skinningrove with the bustling seaside town of Staithes with its pretty harbour. It takes in some high cliffs with views across the sea and fields passing the site of the Loftus Alum Works on the way. The first half of this way climbs using a mix of steps and steep grassy paths, some quite close to the cliff edge.

This stretch of the England Coast Path passes through farmland and along the cliff tops. It links the pretty village of Runswick Bay with the holiday town of Staithes. The route passes the remains of Port Mulgrave which can be visited by a steep walk down to the beach here.

This rural section of the England Coast Path follows miles of sandy beaches and takes in the coastal towns of Redcar, Marske-by-the-Sea and Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The majority of the walk is along sand dunes and the top of cliffs with the final stretch being along the promenade at Saltburn.
