Description of the walk

(S/E) From Sherborne Primary School, go through the stone doorway in the wall between the phonebox and drinking fountain and follow the path beyond, initially parallel to the road. Follow it round to the left, with woods on your right and a field on your left. At a bench, turn right into the wood, following the purple markers. Pass a wooden dragonfly sculpture on your left.

(1) Bear left to a path junction, where you keep left, again following the purple markers, until you reach a hooped iron hand gate with stone gate-posts. Bear right here to pass the old icehouse and continue to another iron gate. Keep on to a third iron gate by a bench, where you emerge into a track alongside open fields.

(2) Turn right and follow the track as far as Ewepen Barn (diverting left up the Beech Avenue to view the lodge gates if desired).

(3) At Ewepen Barn double back right onto a path along the field edge, which swings left and downhill to a wood by a wooden sculpture. Follow the path through the wood to a metal sculpture of a deer, where the path swings right and continues to descend.

(4) Eventually the path turns left and goes through a gap in the wall into the road. Turn right and walk along the road past houses, then with a fine view over the dammed Sherborne Brook in the valley on your left.

(5) Continue past the church and stables to return to the starting point at Sherborne Primary School. (S/E)
