Sierra de Guadarrama - Senda de las Cabras and the clavijas

A circular route that starts and finishes in the small village of Mataelpino, at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama, with plenty of parking in the village, and the 672 bus from the bus depot at Moncloa goes through Mataelpino.

Description of the walk

Start: village of Mataelpino

(S/E) The route starts easily enough along the via pecuaria (drove road) that is also the Camino Madrid - Santiago de Compostela.

(1) At the Hermitage San Isidro, the route turns left to head north up the slopes known as the Laderas del Boalo (2) (another small village close by).
Before reaching the Torreta de los Porrones, the route goes through a rocky area that has clavijas (iron U supports) that help the ascent and get the adrenaline rushing.

(3) After the Torreta de los Porrones, Collado de Valdehalcones (4) (Cruz de Mierlo), Peña Blanca (5), Cancho de las Porras (8) and Cancho Porrón (9), the route dives down to the left to head back to Mataelpino.(S/E)
