Putzen Hütte

A magnificent snowshoe hike offering superb views of the Austrian Alpine massif in North Tyrol.

In particular, you will see the Hoher Riffler, which, at an altitude of 3,167 metres, is the highest point in the area.

A pleasant, easy walk along a well-groomed trail.

Description of the walk

The car park is located at the entrance to the municipality of Sankt Anton am Arlberg, heading up the Rosanna valley.

It is recommended to park as close as possible to the start of the car park, near the RUETZ bakery.

Follow Nassereinerstrasse to the ‘1 ’ at the edge of the forest: this is an inn where you can hire sledge.

Take the toboggan run to the bridge over the river. At this point, the toboggan run branches off to the left; continue along the track that climbs up the Schöngrabenbach valley.

Stay on the main valley path, without turning off onto the track leading to the right.

You then make your way up this beautiful little valley. You leave the valley floor to climb the hillside on your right.

The trail winds gently up the hillside, initially through the forest. You then emerge into open ground and soon spot the viewing platform (2).

At (3), the viewing platform offers a wonderful view of all the surrounding mountain ranges, but also allows you to rest, on the way there or back, using the facilities provided.

After this point, the route continues to climb very gently for a few minutes, then descends very gradually to point 5, shortly after the junction with a path branching off the track to the right.

At (5), you begin the final ascent up a gentle slope: do not go up the steep gully on your left!

At point (6), the last bend before reaching the Putzen Hütte: you will see one of the famous ‘Austrian’ crosses, i.e. framed by a protective wooden diamond.

All that remains is to make your way easily to the Putzen Hütte (7).

The return route (not mentioned in the details) is easily followed along the same path.
