Description of the walk

Moutiers - N90 - Aime la Plagne - D218 - Granier - then head towards the cross-country ski trail - Téleski de la Chavonne - Easy parking at the bottom of the ski lift.

(S/E) Follow the ski lift track to its summit at La Chavonne.

(1) From La Chavonne, climb up through the clearing (north-west). At around 1,850 m, after crossing a wide track, head west, passing below the hamlet of Thiabor to reach the hamlet of Pra Spa.

(2) From the hamlet, traverse upwards under La Roche à Thomas (west then north-west at the end) to reach a small pass just below La Roche à Thomas (2270 m).

(3) From the pass, head northwest uphill to reach the small peak at an altitude of 2,513 metres.

(4) From this peak, descend a few metres on the north shoulder, then continue northwards on an easy shoulder towards the summit of Pointe de Combe Bénite.

(5) From the summit, descend a beautiful west-facing valley. At around 2350 m, put your skins back on and head northwest then north to reach the Col de Corne Noire.

(6) From the pass, descend the beautiful north-east slopes to quickly reach (2200 m) the Ruisseau de la Poupresaz and follow it to the right until you reach the false flat (2100 m).

(7) From there, continue to follow the stream valley but on its left bank until you reach the bottom.

(8) Once at the bottom, follow the Cormet torrent to the right (southeast).

(9) When you reach Laval, do not cross the stream but stay on its right bank and follow the track, which is normally groomed (cross-country skiing) with slight descents or sometimes flat sections.

(10) Cross the stream du Gargot and head towards the Téleski de la Chavronne car park (S/E).

The traverse under La Roche à Thomas faces south. Be careful not to go too late... the slope is steep. So take precautions.

Worth a visit

(6) It is possible to climb Crêt du Rey on the way, which adds another 200 m of ascent. The summit of the final valley is a little steep.

We did a lovely route that we took a few surprises on foot... but it gave us a good foundation.
