Park in the car park before or after the bridge next to the Gefira tavern.
(S/E) Take the dirt track running alongside the tavern on the right, then follow the path on the left bank of the river, following the signs for “Way to Palm Beach”. You’ll reach a bridge after the confluence of the two rivers.
(1) Turn right to cross this bridge and reach another small stream, which is often dry.
(2) Cross it, then start climbing through the heath to overlook the river. Join the river and look for a welded mesh gate.
(3) Go through it, then keep to the right to walk alongside a cultivated field. Follow the rusty wire fence protecting the gorges to reach a superb viewpoint over the beach, the gorges and the palm trees.
(4) Walk past the mast at the top before tackling the (steep) descent, following the fence. The path then veers away from it, facing the quiet beaches. At a right-hand bend, you’ll reach a path junction.
(5) Turn right onto a barely visible path (a few dots of coloured paint on the rocks) and head down to join the path running along the coast. Continue to the right, passing above some superb, uncrowded beaches, and take a gap in the fence on the right to reach the (busy) beach at Preveli.
(6) Cross the river opposite the bar and take the path on the left about a hundred metres further on. Begin the return journey along the right bank of the river and reach a car park.
(7) Continue along the road, keeping in the same direction.
(8) Turn right between the oleanders through the gate in the fence.
(9) At the crossroads, go past the path heading due south, then take the first on the right and follow the rusty fence on your right.
(10) Turn left.
(11) Cross the wire mesh on the right to continue along the path, then cross it again further on. You will reach a small chapel.
(12) Continue to the right, reach the right bank of the river and follow the wide, well-marked path back to the car park (S/E).
