(S/E) Leave Place de Saint-Germain-des-Prés by taking Boulevard Saint-Germain in descending order (168, 166, etc.), along the church. Take the third street on the left, Rue de Buci, then the first on the left, Rue de Bourbon Le Château.
Then take the third right, Rue de Furstemberg, then the first left, Rue Jacob. At the next intersection, turn right onto Rue Bonaparte, which will take you to the Seine. Turn left, then right onto Pont du Carrousel. You will arrive at the Louvre Museum, with the glass pyramid on your right and the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel on your left.
(1) Continue straight ahead and you will come out onto Rue de Rivoli. Cross the street and follow Rue de Rohan straight ahead. Walk past the Comédie Française on your right and, at the corner of Place André Malraux, turn right towards the Constitutional Council. Take the covered passageway that leads to the inner courtyard of the Palais Royal, where the Buren columns are located. Turn left to reach the Palais Royal gardens.
(2) Go around the central pond to the opposite corner on the right. Exit and cross Rue du Beaujolais. Take the stairs opposite and take the passage on the right. When you exit the passage, turn right onto Rue des Petits Champs, then Rue de La Feuillade. You will arrive at Place des Victoires (with a statue of Louis XIV in the centre).
Take the second street on the right, Rue Croix des Petits Champs. Leave this street and take the first left, Rue Coquillière, which will take you close to the Esplanade des Halles.
(3) Leave the Bourse building on your right and cross the Esplanade des Halles towards the Canopée (a large roof shaped like waves, or a gendarme's hat...). At the foot of the building, turn right onto Rue du Pont Neuf. Follow this street to the Seine, cross the Pont Neuf bridge and you will arrive at the Île de la Cité. Turn right and go down the steps towards the Vedettes du Pont Neuf. Walk along the Square du Vert Galant on your left and you will reach the tip of the island.
(4) Turn around and head back in the other direction, keeping the square on your left. Walk back up the Pont Neuf bridge with its array of padlocks. Cross the small arm of the Seine on your right and return to the left bank. First turn right then left to cross Quai de Conti at the traffic lights and return to Rue Dauphine. Follow this street to the right, then take the third street on the left, Rue André Mazet. At the end of the street, turn right then immediately left into a covered passageway.
At the end of the passageway, turn right onto Boulevard Saint-Germain. At the next intersection, cross the boulevard and continue straight ahead onto Rue de l'Odéon. This street will take you to the Théâtre de l'Odéon.
(5) Go around the theatre on the left. At the end of Rue Corneille, cross Place Paul Claudel to the right and enter the splendid Jardin du Luxembourg. Head south and admire the Médicis fountain on your left as you walk. Go up the stairs and leave the Pavillon de la Fontaine on your left. Then turn right and go down towards the pond.
(6) From the pond, you can see the palace, seat of the Senate. Continue on to exit the garden on the other side (west) of the building. As you pass, you will see tennis courts on your left and chess games. Exit along the museum building. Cross Rue de Vaugirard and take Rue du Pérou opposite. Follow this street to Saint-Sulpice Church.
(7) Cross the square diagonally to the left to take Rue Bonaparte. Continue straight ahead, cross Rue du Four and then Boulevard Saint-Germain, and return to the starting point (S/E).
