A walk in the heart of nature starting from Valsery Abbey

The route begins with a grassy path that climbs 60 metres, offering a beautiful ascent at the start. It then continues on flat terrain, following agricultural paths that are ideal for enjoying the surroundings while walking at a leisurely pace. After this section, a descent leads to the picturesque village of Saint-Pierre-Aigle, a charming place to take a short break.

The rest of the route takes you into the forest, with 8 kilometres of forest paths, pleasant and varied terrain, perfect for nature lovers. You then cross the village of Montgobert, adding a touch of diversity before returning to the plain. The return journey is along farm tracks, offering wide views and unobstructed vistas of the surrounding countryside. Finally, a last descent takes you to ValseryAbbey, a historic site that provides a beautiful conclusion to this route.

Description of the route

Departure from the visitor car park at Valsery Abbey. Please note: this grassy car park becomes muddy in wet weather.

(S/E) Join the D17, turn left and follow this departmental road to the next junction at Pont Saint-Denis.

(1) Leave the tarmac road and take the path up to the right. Keep to the right and you will come to a fork at the edge of the forest.

(2) Continue right on the farm track to the war memorial in the village of Saint-Pierre-Aigle. At the end of Rue du Capitaine Bosquet, turn left, walk alongside the farm buildings and arrive at number 22.

(3) Take the path on the left and follow it for about 1 km until you reach a four-way crossroads.

(4) Continue to the right, then turn left onto the tarmac road. At Ferme de la Glaue, continue to the right until you reach the junction with the D172 and the war memorial.

(5) Go straight ahead, then quickly turn left. At the stop sign, make a sharp right turn (Rue de l'Ave Maria) and you will see a fountain on your right.

(6) Continue, then turn left onto the small road going uphill. At Ferme du Chauffour, continue along the path (Chemin des Grès) until you reach a road (D17). Turn left and you will soon see a turning on the right, a few metres before the danger sign indicating a lorry exit.

(7) Turn right onto the forest path, cross a road and continue straight ahead on Laie du Fond d'Argent until you reach Carrefour du Conservateur.

(8) Continue along the carriageway on the left until you reach Carrefour d'Aumale.

(9) Continue to the right, cross the D2 and continue straight ahead to the Carrefour des Ventes Cagniard.

(10) Take the third track on the left until you reach the tarmac road of Laie du Mur du Parc.

(11) Turn right and followthis lane straight ahead until you reach a three-way junction.

(12) Keep right and continue along this road until the end of Rue des Grands Jardins, in Puiseux-en-Retz. Turn right, then left onto Rue du Montcet.

(13) Pass in front of the wash house and keep right (D250) until you reach Étang de Montgobert.

(14) Cross the dyke, follow the road up to the church, then turn left onto Rue de la Croix and left again a few metres further on, towards Parc à l'Anglaise, to reach the castle entrance gate.

(15) Turn right and, at the cemetery, continue along the path, then turn right and head towards the Ferme du Haut de Valsery.

(16) At the corner, turn right, cross the road (D2) and walk a few metres until you find a path on the left that leads into the woods.

(17) Take this path through the unfenced passage on the left and descend to the visitor car park at Valsery Abbey (S/E).
