Description of the walk

Park at the Julma-Ölkky car park.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the Julma-Ölkyntie road to the entrance archway of the Ölökky trails. Cross the wooden bridge and walk for about 1 km.

(1) Shortly after a short descent, a path on the right leads to a viewpoint. Return to the junction and continue along the route for a further 1 km or so.

(2) A fork in the path offers a choice between the old and the new hiking trails. Turn left onto the new one. You’ll rejoin the old trail some 500 metres further on, then continue left until the next junction.

(3) At the junction, turn right and head down to the suspension bridge. Cross to the other side of the lake. Climb back up the stone steps and thenthe metal spiral staircase.

(4) At the junction, take the path on the right and walk for about 2.5 km to return to the Julma-Ölkyntie road, after crossing numerous streams and waterfalls via small footbridges. Return to the car park (S/E).
