Description of the walk

Park in the village square at Sainte-Colombe.

(S/E) Continue along the road away from the houses and head towards the junction with the track leading to Les Maisons des Clots.

(1) Turn left onto this forest road, the Beynaves track, and follow it to the large junction with the botanical trail.

(2) Turn right onto theGRP® marked in red and yellow to reach the Col de Saint-Ange.

(3) Turn right onto the ridge path which forms part ofthe GRP® Tour des Baronnies Provençales. Stay on this path to reach, via a virtually level stretch, a four-way junction.

(4) Leave theGRP® here and start the descent to the right, crossing through the forest to reach the original crossroads.

(1) Follow the same route as on the way out to return to the Sainte-Colombe car park (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 942 m - Sainte-Colombe car park
  2. 1 : km 0.38 - alt. 968 m - Crossroads of the circular loop

Notes

There is no water on this short circular route; in summer, you should bring at least 1 litre per person as it gets particularly hot here at this time of year.

Worth a visit

Between (3) and (4), there is a superb view with the giant of Provence in the background: Mont Ventoux, which appears to be covered in snow all year round.

A beautiful walk in the eastern Baronnies with a lovely view of the northern slope of Mont Ventoux.

Very good, especially for the ridge starting from the Saint-Ange pass. Beautiful autumn colours.

A lovely walk – we did it the other way round. The ridge walk offers some stunning views. The forest track is a bit long...

A very scenic but fairly challenging walk
Note: 1 to 2: stay on the wide forest track until point 2 (do not follow the first sign: Col de l’Ange).
A few metres after the sign for “Forêt départementale de Beynaves (2)”, take the red and white GR trail (the start is not very visible) to the right (do not take the wide track that goes downhill). The climb is very slippery in the autumn leaves at this time of year, and the GPX track is slightly different from the route on the map (which is clearly marked in red and white on the trees, the one I followed).A fairly steep climb which makes me think that going the other way... ? Superb view at the Col de l’Ange. Then the climb and the first section along the ridge (red and yellow). Tricky sections in places (beware if you suffer from vertigo, but what a view!). After that, easier (pure pleasure) and the descent (point 4) is less steep than points 2 and 3
Personal tip: stick to the same direction.
A superb hike completed with my dog in 4 hours, including numerous photo stops (3 hours 30 minutes of walking). Difficulty level: a good medium.

A lovely walk.
I’d just recommend doing it the other way round; that would allow for a gentle descent along the forest track.

The path from point 2 to the Col de Saint Ange is marked in red and white, not red and yellow; according to the GPS, it deviates quite significantly from the route shown on the IGN map. On the ridge, the markings are indeed red and yellow, but you have to be well into the path to spot the first marker.
The ridge path is magnificent, but watch out for vertigo – I would have classified this path as ‘difficult’.
Progress is slow on this very rugged section; I feel the estimated walking time is underestimated because of this.
