Once on the trail you’ll pass an airport viewing point where you might want to indulge in a bit of plane spotting before continuing towards Sheldon Country Park. Diverging off the trail just a short way, you can further explore its 300 acres of open grassland, wetlands and mature woodland.
Howard Brown, branch manager for the Halifax bank, who won a staff competition to appear in their advertisements, was born and raised in Sheldon.
The route will then bring you to Elmdon Park, with fine views across the surrounding landscape. The park covers the grounds of the former Elmdon Hall which encompasses the lake, as well as a heritage trail which provides historic info on the remains of Elmdon Hall, St Nicolas’s Church and the old walled garden, which is now a Local Nature Reserve.

Aircraft Spotting: This route puts you squarely in the prime viewing area by the end of Runway 15. You’ll also get some great (and probbaly noisy) views as you skirt the perimeter fence. Binoculars at the ready!

Sheldon Country Park: This trail also lets you explore just over 300 acres of open grassland, wetlands, old hedgerows and some mature woodland. The Old Rectory Farm at its heart is open to visitors throughout the year (from 10:30am to 5:30pm).

Elmdon Park: Fine views, a wealth of history relating to the former Elmdon Hall and a wonderful variety of habitats including the old walled garden, woodland, lakes and meadows make this a top destination for an amble (and a great place for birdwatching)!

Landrover Experience: Get behind the wheel of one of the UK’s most iconic vehicles at the heart of Land Rover’s manufacturing facility. With intense inclines, dramatic descents, sideways tilts and more, this is real big kids stuff!
