Marsh - Suur Suujärv lake

This gentle walk brings you along marsh/bogs visiting the peaceful Suur Suujärv lake where you can do some birdwatching. You will mainly walk on boardwalks until reaching an observation tower to get a view of the treetops and flatlands. This walk is part of the locally known Meenikunno matkarada walk. The best is to get two cars, one at the start and one at the end.

Description of the walk

Start : Meenikunno raba õpperada, Nohipalo, 64216 Polva County. Coordinate 57.94467, 27.33562

(S/E) From Meenikunno raba õpperada car park, walk East and keep straight ignoring paths coming from left and right.

(1) After 300m, you will come out of the trees and go past Kamarusjärv lake on your right-hand side and will start walking onto boardwalks. From now on, the path is obvious. Walk past a second lake behind trees before reaching Suur Suujärv Lake after 1 Km on your right-hand side.

(2) When you finished enjoying the view, carry on walking on the boardwalk West then it curves South to reach wooden steps going up hill towards a wooden observatory tower.

(3) Go up the steps towards the tower, entering the woodland. After enjoying the view from the top of the tower. (Mind the steps when going downstairs, they are steep and slippery steps.)

(4) From here, return to your car using the same way or with your back to the tower, walk straight ahead towards the wooden cabin and campsite. Go past the hunter Liipsaare cabin on your right-hand side and keep going straight ahead ignoring paths coming from left and right until reaching the car park and end point. (E)

Terrain : Boardwalk and forest path.

Accommodation : A forest hut and camping spot nearby the end of the walk called Lilpsaare metsaonn.

"The forest side of the hiking trail is difficult to pass due to the high water, and high rubber boots are definitely needed. Hikers with children are advised to follow the boardwalk." (Source RMK)
