Description of the walk

Hikers' car park located on the edge of the D160, Route de La Plaine.

(S/E) Take the ramp and, passing by the town hall, head towards the village centre. Turn right and pass to the right of the church.

(1) Turn left between the houses onto Rue du Four, then quickly take a path that starts on the right. Cross the stream and walk past the small housing estate. Continue along the path until you reach the entrance to Hameau des Abbes.

(2) From the entrance to the hamlet, continue left to join a concrete track.

(3) At the crossroads, turn left onto the concrete track and continue uphill to the Chapelle Saint-Michel. Take the path on your right which leads to the chapel and the orientation table located just above it.

(4) Once you have admired the view, rejoin the main path and turn right to continue your climb.

(5) Pass the Col del Ramas.

(6) At the top of the climb, at the cairn, take the path on the left and continue for about 400 metres to enjoy the view of Pic de la Coquillade and the surrounding forests.

(7) Leave the viewpoint by retracing your steps.

(6) Turn left at the first cairn. Continue along this steep path.

(7) Pass Col de la Balque, ignoring the paths branching off to the left and then to the right, and head towards the village of Cabrerolles below.

(9) Once you reach the village, take the small road to the right of the cemetery (Rue Grande), turn left in front of the church and head for the ruins of Cabrerolles Castle just above.

(10) Take the path that crosses the castle ruins, then continue climbing towards the Col de la Coquillade.

(11) When you reach the road, turn left and head north-northwest to the hamlet of La Borie Nouvelle.

(12) Go around the hamlet on the right. Leave it by taking the path straight ahead, then begin your descent towards Les Aires. At the fork (elevation 502), turn left towards the north.

(13) At the crossroads, leave the path on the left, then turn left about a hundred metres further on and continue north. The path then heads north-west before meeting several paths coming from the right.

(14) Continue downhill and follow the track.

(15) After about 500 metres, at a right-hand bend, leave the track and take the path on your left that descends into the woods. After a long right-hand bend and then a left-hand bend, cross a stream.

(16) Take the Chemin de Grimio and then the Chemin de la Coste. Continue to the right.

(17) At the crossroads, turn left and continue to the village of Les Aires. Continue along Chemin Neuf, then turn right before the church, where you will rejoin the path you took on the way there and the car park (S/E).

A very pleasant hike in the heat, as it is often shaded!
Lovely views of the surrounding valleys and peaks.
Quite challenging,
I recorded it without following the suggested route, as I was following someone who knew the area, but I found the distance and elevation gain to be greater...
Recommended for experienced walkers.

A beautiful route, particularly pleasant in its first section. No difficulty in terms of the itinerary.
Except for the climb after Cabrerolles, the route is very shady, almost too much so at this time of year on the descent to Cabrerolles!
Numerous arbutus trees with their fruits at this time of year.
Up to point 5, then from point 11 onwards, PR markings are clear; be careful at point 11 where you pick up these markings.
From point 5, on the way back from point 6, you will find blue markings, which you should ignore at the Col de la Blaque, as they correspond to another route that you will find just before Cabrerolles.
I found an elevation gain of 890m on the barometric altimeter and 906m on the GPS, which is consistent, and a distance of 16.2km, which is slightly more than the information given on the map.

A lovely walk with beautiful views, not very busy and very pleasant in sunny weather with plenty of shaded areas. I recommend it.

A hilly but accessible hike with several points of interest (a chapel with beautiful views, the village of Cabrérolles with its church and castle, the Pic de la Coquillade viewpoint overlooking the wine-growing plain, the sea and, to the north, Caroux and Espinouse).
Slight downside: a lot of walking in dense woodland.
Best done at this time of year with a multitude of flowers and still plenty of greenery.
Just under 5 hours' walking.

The hike is pleasant, not particularly physically demanding, the signage is good so you can't get lost, shame it was very windy, I really enjoyed the view from the orientation table and St Michel chapel, with volunteers probably cutting the branches on the path leading to the chapel, it must be said.
Very good.
