Description of the route

In Duclair, park at the Eaux Mêlées car park at the foot of the veterinary clinic.

(S/E) Cross the CD 982 to reach the banks of the Seine, to the right of the car body shop, and follow Avenue Maurice Lefèbvre.

(1) At the stop sign, turn left onto Route du Halage D65 towards Le Mesnil-sous-Jumièges.

(2) At the Mesnil-sous-Jumièges ferry, continue along the same road to reach the village centre.

(3) At the large bend near the town hall, head up Rue de l'Église opposite to admire the building and continue straight on to the crossroads.

(4) Turn left onto Chemin de la Vigne, which leads behind the Manoir d'Agnès Sorel, the building where King Charles VII’s favourite died.

(5) At the end of Chemin de la Vigne, turn right onto the D65, which runs alongside the golf course and the outdoor activity centre.

(6) After number 2106 on Rue du Mesnil, turn right onto Rue du Quesney and follow it until you reach the back of Jumièges Abbey, then the abbot’s residence, the school and Saint-Pierre Church.

(7) At the wayside shrine (on your left), turn right onto Rue Guillaume le Conquérant (D143) until you reach the village of Yainville.

(8) In Yainville, after the roundabout by the town hall, at the mini-market, turn left onto Rue de la République. Pass by the remarkable Romanesque church and continue along the same street to the business park.

(9) After the bus stop, turn left onto Rue du Bac until you reach the Seine.

(10) Take the ferry to cross the river for the first time.

(11) Once on the left bank, turn left onto the D65. Follow the Seine to the Grange Dîmière. Pass this barn and continue straight on along the towpath to reach the Chapelle du Bout du Vent (marine graffiti).

(12) Go round the south side before rejoining the D65, which you follow to the left towards Heurteauville. Follow this road to the next ferry.

(13) Admire the sundial and an old lime kiln opposite. Turn left into Rue du Port Jumièges.

(14) Cross the Seine a second time via the Jumièges ferry and, whilst crossing, enjoy the view of the Landin cliffs. Upon exiting the ferry, turn left onto Rue des Clos (Val de Seine cycle route signposted towards Le Havre). Stay on this street.

(15) Turn right onto Rue des Iles and head up towards the centre of Jumièges (beautiful views of the abbey). At the end of this street, turn right onto Rue des Fontaines, then right again onto Route du Mesnil, which leads to the entrance of Jumièges Abbey (open to visitors).

(16) After the abbey, continue straight on along the outer wall towards Le Mesnil-Sous-Jumièges.
At the end of the outer wall, turn right towards Le Conihout and follow this road, which runs parallel to the Seine, to the village of Le Mesnil-sous-Jumièges.

Back on the D65, turn right towards the ferry to cross the river for the third time.

(17) At the roundabout after leaving the ferry, turn right onto the D265, Route du Marais, towards Yville-sur-Seine.

(18) Once in the village, turn right onto Rue du Vivier then left onto Rue de l’Église to see the cemetery cross.
Turn left onto Rue du Village, then immediately right onto Route de la Bouille to reach the entrance to the château (not open to visitors). Continue along this road to the next junction with the D45, where you turn left towards Anneville-Ambourville.

(19) At the junction, turn left onto Rue Hulin towards the Yville-Le Mesnil ferry. At the junction with the D265, turn right towards the roundabout.

(17) This time, continue straight ahead to rejoin the Véloroute du Val de Seine signposting. Follow this route to the junction with the D64.

(20) Turn left to reach the Duclair ferry, which will take you across the Seine for the fourth and final time.

(21) Once on the right bank, turn left towards Le Trait to reach the Eaux Mêlées car park (S/E).

We tweaked the route a bit. We set off from Saint Wandrille and followed the dedicated cycle path to Duclair. We then followed the recommended route along the towpath and took the circular Seine loop through the orchards to Jumieges. It was lovely. We took the ferry and followed the left bank of the Seine to the Yanville ferry. That’s the next one. Then we made our way back to Saint Wandrille through the forest, passing through Sainte Marguerite sur Duclair.

There are many possible circular routes along the Seine loops

The (well-known) risk with this hike is the reliability of the ferries. Of the four we’d planned for and checked at the last minute using the 76 app, two let us down along the way, forcing us to completely change our route. What a shame!

A very pleasant walk, easy and rich in heritage.
I changed the route slightly to finish on a high note along the D65 by the banks of the Seine
