(S/E) From the car park at Wasserbourg town hall, follow the main road towards Soultzbach until you reach the next crossroads.
(1) Turn right at the crossroads towards the Auberge du Boenlesgrab. Continue straight ahead and pass a cul-de-sac on your left.
(2) After the last house on the left, follow the path on the left marked with a yellow disc. There is a steep 10-metre climb before turning right and going up into the forest. Cross a forest road and continue straight ahead.
(3) When you reach the crossroads, cross the main path. Continue almost straight ahead, then turn right, following the blue triangle markings. After a few hundred metres, leave the path that descends to the left, continuing to follow the blue triangle markings.
(4) When you reach the crossroads of the forest paths, turn right, following the red disc markings towards Boenlesgrab. The small path climbs up through the trees (the sign is in the opposite direction to your arrival).
(5) At the junction, take the second path on the left, following the yellow rectangle; the path descends towards the Col de Boenlesgrab.
(6) Follow the yellow rectangle (GR®532) on a path opposite, which climbs steeply for the first hundred metres after the inn. After the winding section, ignore a small path that climbs to the right and continue towards Petit Ballon.
(7) Leave two paths on the left after the clearing and continue to follow the yellow rectangle markings towards Petit Ballon.
(8) Towards the end of the climb, turn sharply right, following the signs indicating the direction of Petit Ballon. Continue to the summit.
(9) Go through the turnstile and descend towards the inn/refuge below (blue diamond markings).
(10) At the foot of the inn/refuge, turn right and follow the yellow ring markings to the Col du Petit Ballon.
(11) Cross the road to the left, then follow the red triangle markings on the right towards Steinberg. Continue along the ridge, turning left and descending straight down to a crossroads below, along a barbed wire fence.
(12) Turn right at the fence and walk along the barbed wire on the right-hand side (red triangle markings visible a little further on).
(13) When you reach the road, continue straight ahead following the blue disc markings and descend to the front of the inn.
(14) Between the inn and the road, go straight ahead along the wooden barriers, following the yellow triangle and ring markings. Be careful not to go back up towards the Petit Ballon; simply follow the road down to the large crossroads at the edge of the woods, where several paths start.
(15) At the crossroads, slightly to the right after crossing the road, follow the path marked with a yellow triangle that branches off to the left at the edge of the forest, with superb views of the Wasserbourg valley on the right. Follow the main path to the next crossroads.
(16) Take the second path on the right, slightly following the direction of Wasserbourg, marked with a blue triangle. At the next crossroads, ignore the path that descends to the left and continue following the blue triangle markings.
(17) At the next forest road junction, turn right towards Wasserbourg, following the red ring markings.
(18) At the next hairpin bend, follow the red ring markings straight ahead for a few dozen metres, then turn right downhill. You will arrive at a farm. Once you have passed the first fence, head towards the foot of the barn.
(19) The path then descends to the right (the farm building is on your left), following the red ring markings. This path takes you back to the car park of Wasserbourg Town Hall (S/E).
