From Hérépian, head towards Colombières-sur-Orb via the D908. Once in Colombières, cross the bridge over the Ruisseau d’Arles and immediately turn right onto the tarmac road leading to the village school. Park in the car park beyond: there is a charge during the summer months only.
(S/E) From the car park, head back down towards the bridge on the D908. Walk along the left side of the bridge and turn immediately left, following the yellow markings. The PR® marked trail takes the steps of a house and turns right into the forest. It then follows a stone staircase, winding its way between the pretty stone houses of the hamlet of Les Seilhols.
(1) Shortly after the last building, leave the PR® to take the path marked by a sign for “Piste de la Buffe” (Yellow Cross), which climbs quite steeply to the left, heading north. This path is marked with blue paint circles. The steady climb continues on the left bank above the Arles stream, which has carved out the Gorges de Colombières. Pass through the Col de la Buffe, where the less steep climb continues and leads to the Col des Arcs; follow the Blue Circles carefully.
(2) The path descends for approximately 120 metres, still on the left bank, and climbs back up towards Les Estrets, passing close to equipped climbing routes. You can see the hamlet of La Fage on the left, below you above the torrent. The yellow PR® marked trail runs above the Auberge des Avels and reaches a crossroads.
(3) Follow the stony track on the left. About a hundred metres further on, keep left onto the GR®7 and you’ll soon reach a junction.
(4) Turn left. At a barrier, head down the tarmac road towards the hamlet of La Fage (GR® 7). Before reaching the hamlet, let the GR® 7 branch off to the right up onto the Caroux plateau, and continue straight on along the yellow-marked PR® trail. Do not leave this yellow trail until you reach the car park.Reach the hamlet, where beautiful stone houses make up this haven of peace, which you should respect as you pass through it to reach the banks of the Gorges stream. A few spots by the water’s edge will be welcome for a bite to eat.
(5) Continue the descent along the right bank of the stream, past small waterfalls and pools of water popular with tourists seeking cool water for a swim in summer.
(6) Pass close to the cave dwellings above and to the right of the path: a visit is a must. The descent continues along the path, which is sometimes made up of steps, following the stream. Ignore the turn-offs to the right and stick to the path closest to the stream to reach the tarmac road below the school. Follow this road uphill to the left to return to the car park (S/E).
