Access to the start of the walk
From the town hall square in Pélussin, take Rue Gaston Baty towards the police station, then continue straight on Rue de la Valencize until you find Allée des Bleuets (retirement home) on your right.
Turn onto this lane and park in the car park indicated at the end of the lane on the left (end of the field reserved for parking).
(S/E) From the car park, take the path that extends from the car park and goes down the hill, entering a small wood.
Take the path that branches off to the left at the first fork; you will hear the sound of the Valencize river below.
The path descends. When you reach the bend in the D34 (Pélussin water treatment plant opposite), turn left onto the road bridge.
(1) Take a path that climbs up to the left of the road (signposted "Le Grand Embuent" and "Le Perret", white/brown markings).
After a short climb, continue straight ahead, leaving a path and vineyards on your left.
(2) About 200 metres further on, turn left, following the white/brown markings (the mountain bike trail continues straight ahead).
Climb straight up the hill, where you will begin to enjoy beautiful views of Pélussin and the Pilat peaks.
Please note: you will cross two roads, which you should cross, and continue straight ahead, following the markings.
Pass the hamlet of "Le Perret" and cross a small wood.
Please note: you will come out onto the D19 (altitude 473 m), which connects Pélussin to La Chapelle-Villars and Chuyer.
(3) Turn left onto the D19 (hiking sign and direction "Château Belize", white/brown markings) for 600m, pass the hamlet of "Les Auberges", then the "Chambarin" sign (farm by the roadside).
Please note that this is a busy road with little space for pedestrians, so take care.
(4) Turn right onto a dirt track. Leave the road at a left-hand bend. This is the "Béatrice de Roussillon" path (signposted "chambre d'hôtes, chez Judy").
Leave the guesthouse on your left, go down towards a road and cross it. Pass a cross. Cut across a road. Continue for 200 metres.
(5) Turn left onto a dirt track. Leave the track opposite, which would take you to the Château de Belize in the Pilat hills.
Descend into a wooded area to reach a stone house (Les Thurettes), cross a stream.
Turn left towards a place called "Le Buisson".
(6) Do not follow the road; turn left between the houses and follow a dirt track downhill.
This wooded, covered path passes through La Métrarie, then La Bonnetarie, and turns into a small tarmac road.
Pass a farm on your left with barns (GAEC Verpilat) and continue along the road, which runs alongside cornfields and leads to a house (Le Mas) with a metal cross on a stone pedestal on the right-hand side of the road.
(7) Turn left, along a breeze block wall (this is not a private driveway, contrary to what you might think).
Join a path that descends along a field and leads to the D19 (again!).
Caution: Turn right carefully.
Leave the D19 after about 300 metres, taking a dirt track on your left that descends towards some houses (signposted "le Moulin").
(8) After 200 metres, this path leads to a private driveway (house) on the left.
Continue straight ahead, going downhill alongside a fence, to reach the road below after 150 metres and the place known as Le Moulin.
Feel free to follow this path, which is not maintained and overgrown with tall grass and (in summer) a few nettles, so we recommend wearing long trousers!
When you reach the road, turn right. This will take you to a crossroads (stone cross, "souvenir de la mission de 1899"), where you continue straight ahead.
After 200 metres, turn left onto Allée des Bleuets and follow it to the car park (S/E).
