Park in Présailles, in the car park near the cemetery.
The hike starts 1.5 km further on, in Charbadeuil, where we will carpool to avoid driving on the main road (although this is possible).
Almost the entire route is on excellent paths and the track of the old railway line,
the Transcévenole. This route is only partially marked, but is easy to follow.
(S) From Charbadeuil, head north-east on a slight incline.
(1) Turn left onto the carriage road that leads to the hamlet of Granegoules. After the Prat Neuf farm on the left and just before you reach the Couderc road, the path becomes tarmac for 200-300 metres.
(2) Leave this road and take the path on the right to cross the ridge and avoid the Granegoules farm.
. Follow it to the junction with the carriage road, which you take on the right.
This path then becomes narrower, but very pleasant, lined with cereal fields beyond which
the view extends to Freyssenet-la-Tour.
(3) From the Inclavades farm, the dirt track, bordered on the left by a stone wall, descends quite steeply to the small bridge over the path leading to a picnic area before arriving at the Récoumène Viaduct. It can be accessed from the right or left of this bridge.
(4) The Récoumène Viaduct, a basalt rock construction rising in a semicircle, was never used. Today, it is used for bungee jumping.
Then retrace your steps and pass under the small bridge. You are now on the Transcévenole, the name of a railway line that was supposed to link Le Puy (Haute-Loire) to Lalevade-d'Ardèche, but which was never completed.
After crossing sandy sections lined with sheep parks and passing under a tunnel
about 20 metres long, you will arrive below Avouac. (This section is 2 km long).
Then continue for about 100 metres on the Transcévenole.
(5) Take the leftmost path, heading south-east, and follow it to Reynaudes.
(6) Head due south and, at the three-way junction, take the road on the right towards Monteillet and then Présailles (E).
