The heritage trail in Patrimonio

Thanks to this route, which takes in places and monuments steeped in history as well as magnificent natural surroundings, the municipality of Patrimonio—which initiated and oversaw this project—offers a lovely walk of just over 3 km. This informative walk allows you to discover the village’s historical and architectural heritage via well-shaded paths or riverside routes, which are very pleasant in summer and, for the lucky residents, at any time of year.

Description of the walk

To reach Patrimonio, take the D81 from Bastia or Saint Florent.

Signposting: follow the route indicated by small iron arrows and signposts detailing the history of the area.

At the post office, turn off at right angles onto Strada di a Chjesa. Park a little further on near the Marc Delaire Garden (Théatre de Verdure), opposite a fountain.

(S/E) Start the walk by heading uphill opposite along Strada di a Chjesa.

(1) Then turn left at A Croce Santa. Walk down the street past the Church of San Martinu before reaching the hamlet of Cardetto. Continue to the right and leave the alleyway to follow a footpath. You’ll soon reach Strada di u Pastinu.

(2) Then turn left onto Via Albina until you have passed the hamlet of Calvello.

(3) Continue along a new footpath. At the junction, turn right onto Strada di u Stagnolu before turning left onto Strada di Marianda. At the end of this, a path leads down towards the River Fium’Albino. Cross the bridge then head up to the right to go round a ruined mill. Continue along the path that runs alongside the River Fium’Albino and cross another bridge. At the path junction, turn left.

(4) Reach another junction, then take the path on the left which climbs steeply towards the hamlet of Stazzona. At the highest point, cross the Ficaja road and explore the narrow streets, following the signposted arrows. To do this, keep straight on at the first junction, then turn right at the next two before keeping left. Cross Ficaja again, then head down a concrete path to Strada di a Stazzona. Turn to join the RD81 road, Avenue Pierre de Bernardini.

(5) Cross the road and then head back up the RD81 to the left for about fifty metres. Turn right and head down an alleyway until you rejoin the RD81, Avenue Pierre de Bernardini. Cross the road and continue along A Rutella.

(2) At the end of A Rutella, at the lowest point, turn left and rejoin Stada di u Pastinu. Keep left at the junction.

(1) At the junction with A Croce Santa, carry on straight ahead until you reach the Marc Delaire Garden. You will arrive at the car park, near the Marc Delaire Garden and the Théâtre de Verdure, opposite a fountain (S/E).
