Le Rozier - Les Vignes

Thisthird stage of the Tour du Causse Méjean takes place entirely within the Gorges du Tarn. Following wide tracks or good footpaths, sometimes beneath overhanging rock formations, sometimes along the banks of the Tarn, this easy, shaded stage offers a very pleasant way to explore this part of the gorges.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Clockwise tour of the Causse Méjean starting from Meyrueis

Description of the walk

Start from the bridge over the Jonte (access to the village of Peyreleau), on the right bank.

GR®6andGRP® Tour du Causse Méjean signposting

(S) With your back to the bridge, turn left and take thefirst street on the right. Continue straight on at the next junction, pass the church on your left, continue right at the next junction. Just after the last houses, about a hundred metres before the bridge over the Tarn, look for a wide path ascending to the right.

(1) Take this path, which climbs very gently above the Tarn. After about 3.5 km, you’ll reach the few houses of the hamlet of Plaisance.

(2) Follow the path to reach the house at Boubals.

(3) Carry on straight ahead, and after 1 km, you will reach the large hamlet of La Sablière (private property).

(4) Take a few hairpin bends to the left and reach the Tarn. Walk alongside the river, then climb up, passing beneath magnificent overhangs, particularly 2 km after La Sablière.

(5) Continue on, then descend gently to join a wide path at La Jonquière, which leads to the D16.

(6) Take the road on the left, and 500 m further on, at the crossroads, turn left, cross the bridge over the Tarn and head towards the village of Les Vignes (E).

Another beautiful stage. This time, we follow the Tarn river downstream. Beautiful views of the troglodyte villages of Saint-Marcellin and Eglazines. We pass through the beautiful hamlet of Les Sablières (private property or lodge depending on the time of year).
You can take a break by the banks of the Tarn.
A fairly short stage with no difficulty.
Refreshments available at Les Vignes

A lovely little walk between the Tarn and the edge of the Causse. There are some beautiful views at times, but we’re mostly surrounded by vegetation. The upside is that we’re in the shade.
It’s a shame for the vegetation that the box tree moth is so prevalent (we walked through a swarm of white butterflies). And unfortunately, there’s nothing to be done but note the damage.
This walk is still very pleasant, and the return by bus is much appreciated.
