Description of the route

Start from the church car park in Voray-sur-l’Ognon.

(S/E) From the church, take the Grande Rue on the right, then turn left onto Rue de la Poste. At the roundabout, follow Rue de Bussières to the left, then turn right onto Chemin de la Vaivre. Pass under the high-speed rail bridge, then take the road on the right. Cross a road (D66) and continue straight on until the next junction.

(1) Turn left, then at the next fork, turn left again and enter the large Buthiers wood. You’ll reach the first line of felled trees.

(2) Turn left, then come to a Fork in the road.

(3) Follow the path to the right, which climbs and then descends into the Combe la Dame. First turn right then left and, after a second short climb, you’ll reach a road. Continue to the left (D367) for a few hundred metres until you reach the Sommière des Grands Bois.

(4) Turn right onto this road, into the woods, then immediately left. Follow the Grands Bois ridge line, ignore one junction and reach a second one.

(5) Take the path on the right which descends to join the country lane leading to the entrance to Boulot. Follow it to the left as far as the bridge over the River Tounolle.

(6) Turn right, then right again onto the D15, towards Boult. Pass through the village and, at the War Memorial, turn left onto Rue de la Graviolle. Pass the cemetery and take thefirst track on the right.

(7) Follow this dirt track, the former ‘Voie du Tacot’. Carry on straight ahead until you can go no further.

(8) Then turn left, cross the departmental road and carry on towards Chaux. Enter Lotière and turn left onto Rue des Foulniéres. Keep going straight ahead until you enter the woods and reach thesecond junction.

(9) Turn right, cross a plantation of pines, firs and larches, and reach a cross-country track. First turn left then right and continue along the edge of the woodland, then through the cultivated fields until you come out onto a small road.

(10) Turn left, then immediately right into the woods. Keep to the right to reach Le Cordonnet via the hilltops and carry on straight ahead until you reach a crossroads with a tree in the centre.

(11) Carry on straight ahead along Chemin de la Monnote, then, at the Fork in the road, take the path on the right. When you reach the road, follow it for a few metres, then take the path on the right. Walk past a water reservoir with a telecoms mast and reach the first house in Montarlot-lès-Rioz.

(12) Head down to the right and follow Rue de la Laiterie to the left. At the bottom of this street, turn right (Rue des Chenevières) and reach the three-way junction at No. 16.

(13) Continue to the right along Rue du Valère, ignore the Chemin des Vignes on the right and reach a fork in the road. Turn right, cross the hamlet of La Tréfilerie with its pond and reach thesecond three-way junction on the left.

(14) Leave the departmental road and head into the woods via the unpaved track on the left. Carry straight on until you reach the junction at the end of Chemin des Planches, opposite No. 19.

(15) Turn right and enter the village of Boult. At the four-way junction, continue straight ahead along Grand’ Rue and, at the T-junction, turn left onto the D367 (Route de Bussiéres) until you reach No. 17.

(16) Turn left onto Chemin de la Combe la Biche and carry on straight ahead. Enter the forest and reach thefirst junction.

(17) Turn left onto the track, cross the first road and continue until you are about fifty metres from a second road (D15).

(18) Turn right onto the footpath, enter the village of Breurey and reach the junction at Place de la Fontaine Ronde.

(19) Carry on to the right (Rue des Bruyéres) and then turn right again onto Chemin de Villers. Almost at the end of this, take the path on the left, cross the pastures and rejoin the road (D15B, Rue de la Chapelle).

(20) Head straight ahead and reach the hamlet of Villers-le-Temple. Take the first road on the left, then the first path on the right, and continue through the woods, following the valley floor, until you reach the high-speed rail bridge.

(21) Pass under the bridge, then carry on straight ahead. Pass under the N57, enter the village of Buthiers and take the D31, Grande Rue. Continue along Rue de l’Église towards the Town Hall, pass the wash house on your left, then turn right onto Rue du Moulin.

(22) Join the path leading to the château (walk a few metres to the right along Rue de l’Abreuvoir to reach the gate).

(23) Take the small road on the left, cross the bridge over the Buthiers and join the D31. Follow it to the left, towards Voray-sur-l’Ognon, pass the remarkable Notre-Dame de la Pitié Chapel, enter the town and arrive at the multi-way junction you passed at the start. Turn left onto Rue Basse and head for the church (S/E).
