Le Mâtind

Måtinden (or Måtind) is an iconic peak situated on the island of Andøya in the Vesterålen archipelago, Norway. It offers a breathtaking 360° view of the sea, the white sandy beaches (such as Høyvika) and the bird island of Bleiksøya.

Description of the walk

Start from this spot or along the stony path.

(S/E) Head south along a well-marked path.

(1) Turn right at the junction.

(2) Turn right, staying on the path.

(3) Stay on the path.

(4) Stay on the well-marked path, which is signposted with cairns at the summit.

(5) Descend to the right towards the lake below.

(6) Opposite, at the far end of the lake.

(7) Start of a technical section to be avoided at high tide. Follow the red markings carefully.

Notes

Be sure to check the tide times for the end of the walk in the direction described. This technical section involves walking over rocks that drop straight down to the sea below (a few metres). To make the most of the stunning scenery, keep an eye on the local weather, which can change quickly.
