Starting point: Salle des Fêtes car park, Route du Haut Koenigsbourg, Saint-Hippolyte.
(S/E) From the back of the car park, head to Rue du Schlossreben, passing in front of the playground, and follow the red ring markings. Ignore the streets on the left and arrive at the vineyards, at a right-hand bend in the road.
(1) Leave the tarmac path that climbs to the left (Anneau Bleu, this is the return route) and continue towards the Belvédère du Langenberg marked Anneau Rouge (Club Vosgien sign). Just after this, near a cross, a path branches off to the left. Take this dirt track on the left which climbs between the vineyards. After a few dozen metres, at the fork, keep left.
Admire the landscape before you: the village of Saint-Hippolyte, the Alsace plain, the Black Forest and, on a clear day, the Bernese Alps. The path joins another wider path. Continue right to the north-east until you reach the edge of the forest.
(2) Continue uphill to the left, following the vineyard fence to the west, until you reach a crossroads about 200 metres further on.
(3) Leave the Anneau Rouge trail and turn left until you reach the orientation table, following the Chevalet Jaune trail.
(4) Enjoy the view, an ideal spot for a picnic with a bench. Continue along the Chevalet Jaune trail, which is the old vineyard trail. It crosses an old, sparsely exploited forest with remarkable trees. The path approaches the D1B1 and joins it at a bend.
(5) Turn left, staying at the edge of the road, and immediately take the path on the left. This begins the return to Saint-Hippolyte and quickly joins a path coming from the road. Continue following the Anneau Bleu markings. As you leave the forest, you will come to vineyards and a wide path near the road. Take this path, which turns left. After the bend, turn left and you will come to the crossroads you passed on the way out.
(1) Turn right onto Rue du Schlossreben, which leads back to the Salle des Fêtes car park (S/E).
A lovely, quiet, shaded trail. Through the forest and along the edge of vineyards. A wonderful discovery.
