A circular route to Talcy Castle starting from Mer

Start from Mer station, accessible by TER on the line between Tours and Les Aubrais or Orléans.

(S/E) With your back to the station, turn right and head slightly downhill. At the small roundabout, turn right and go under the railway line. Follow Rue Haute d’Aulnay (D15) and ignore the side streets and alleys.

(1) Enter the roundabout and take the third exit, towards Talcy. Pass under the A10 motorway bridge and immediately ignore a small road on the right. Continue along the D15 for some time.

(2) In the village of Morée, first turn right then left, passing a shed on your left.

(3) Enter Talcy and pass by the foot of an old windmill. At the first junction, carry on straight ahead, then turn left immediately towards the château. Pass by the church and arrive at the entrance to Talcy Château.

(4) Carry on straight ahead, then turn left as the road bends and follow the road alongside a large farm on your right.

(5) Ignore another road on the right at the entrance to Mauvoy, turn left and follow the D50 towards Blois. Stay on this road until you reach a junction in the village of Villexanton.

(6) Then take the first left, Rue du Puits (incorrectly named on OSM). Further on, enter the hamlet of Le Noyer.

(7) At the three-way junction, turn right towards Villaugon and Mer.

(8) At the Stop sign (chapel on the left), continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the left.

(9) At the last houses (Stop sign), turn right into Rue de la Pelle.

(10) You’ll come out onto the D95 (Stop sign) and follow it to the left. Cross the bridge over the A10 motorway and continue along the main road, ignoring any side roads.

(11) Ignore a road on the left and turn right onto Rue de Villexanton.

(12) At the next junction, first turn left then right and continue along Rue Basse d’Aulnay.

(13) At a ‘Stop’ sign, carry on straight ahead. Then go under the railway line.

(14) At the next junction, turn left into Rue Jacques Bizeret. Then follow the road on your left past Place de la Halle (statue) and the old grain market.

(15) Cross Avenue du Maréchal Maunoury and follow it to the left as far as the station (S/E).

For motorists, park in the car park at Mer station (S/E). If this is full, park in the car park at Place de la Halle, between (14) and (15).

The route runs entirely on tarmac roads and is therefore suitable for road bikes.

No water points have been identified along the route. There are bars and restaurants near Mer station (S/E).

A detailed map is useful (at the very least, the one accompanying this description). Tracking the route using the Visorando app is a bonus.
