Description of the walk

(S) Leaving Rivage station, follow the road to the left. Go down to the left, Rue du Barrage. Opposite the confluence of the Amblève and Ourthe rivers, turn left into Rue Douxflamme, along the Amblève. Go under the railway bridge and, just before the road bridge, go up a few metres to the left, then take the stairs on the right, following the Red Rectangle and Yellow Diamond signs. You will come out onto the road bridge.

(1) Cross the bridge over the Amblève. At the end of the bridge, go down the steps on the right to return to the riverbank and turn left onto the wide grassy bank. Go back under the railway tracks and, immediately afterwards, continue to the left along the railway line until you reach a road at a level crossing.

(2) Cross at the pedestrian crossing, then turn right into Rue du Pont. From this point, the walk follows the red and white SGR markings. Cross the bridge over the Ourthe and you will reach an intersection.

(3) Follow the N654 to the left, towards Hamoir. Just after house no. 68, cross the main roadwith caution and start climbing the hill on a path on the right, which quickly becomes very rocky. Pass the place called "Pic Napoléon Alt 120 m" (viewpoint over Comblain-au-Pont and the Ourthe valley) and continue climbing until you reach an intersection.

(4) Leave the wide path and the SGR markings and turn left towards the Saint-Martin tower and the caves, following the PL Croix Jaune. Just after two water collection buildings, the path becomes a trail and enters the Roches Noires nature reserve. Pass at the foot of the rock face. At the end of the rock face, ignore a path that climbs to the right and continue for a few more metres until you reach a crossroads.

(5) Descend to the left, following the white and red GR® trail. Go through a turnstile and continue downhill between the meadows until you reach the crossroads at a place called "Au pied des Roches Noires Alt. 140 m". Continue straight ahead with the GR® and the PL Rectangle Vert. Follow these markings carefully. As you progress, you will see numerous stone sculptures dotted along the route. You will reach the entrance to the old cemetery of Comblain-au-Pont.

(6) Opposite the cemetery entrance, descend to the right until you reach a few steps. Descend them to the left. Go through a metal gate, then descend the steps again to reach a cobbled street, Rue de l'Égalité. Descend it to the right to reach the main street after a few metres. Follow it to the right, pass in front of the local school, and you will come to a roundabout.

(7) Turn left and ignore a street that branches off to the left to go up Rue des Grottes towards Anthisnes. At the Y junction, continue climbing to the left, still on Rue des Grottes, following the white and red markings and the yellow cross and green diamond signs. You will reach the esplanade in front of the entrance to the caves, at a place called "Grotte de l'Abîme Alt. 175 m".

(8) Climb the path through the small wood towards the Raideux farm. After a short but steep climb, leave the woods and continue along the grassy path between the fields. Pass by the Raideux sinkhole (information board). You will reach a place called "Ferme du Raideux Alt. 235 m".

(9) Opposite the imposing entrance porch of the farm (a typical Condroz square farm), turn left onto a wide path, following the green diamond sign and the red and white GR® markings , and continue between the fields. Just after one of the many electricity poles that line the route, pass a grassy path that branches off to the right, following the green diamond sign, and continue straight ahead, following only theGR®® sign. After a short, very rocky descent, cross the Cobouhy valley. At the bench, ignore the road that branches off to the left and continue straight ahead on the asphalt road, which, when the slope levels out, gives way to a gravel road. At the end of the path, you will come to a crossroads.

(10) Turn right to follow the road, still following the white and red markings and the yellow rectangle PL. At the end of the asphalt road, go through a metal gate at a place called "Bois de Comblain Alt 260" and continue along a wide forest path in the Comblain-au-Pont communal forest towards the Tolumont farm. Follow this lane until you reach a path that descends to the left.

(11) Leave the wide lane and all the markings to descend this wide path on the left. After passing through a metal barrier, pass several side paths. Still descending, as the lane curves to the right, leave it and continue straight ahead on a grassy path. After a few dozen metres, ignore a path on the left. Shortly afterwards, the path becomes a trail and begins to descend alongside a fence. At the bottom of the descent, go through a metal gate and you will come out onto a small road.

(12) Follow it to the right, and walk along the state-owned nature reserve of the former Larbois sandpit. At the next crossroads, go up to the left on the asphalt road, again following the red and white markings of a GR® trail. At the top, there is a vast panorama of the Ourthe valley. Go down the road. At the bottom of Au delà-les-Monts, turn left towards Géromont. After a few metres, leave the asphalt road and descend to the right onto a narrow schist path between a fence and a hedge, following the GR® and the green-white-green rectangular PL signs, until you reach a junction with a wide stone path.

(13) Leave the marked trail and turn right, following two mountain bike routes. But quickly, at a Y junction, leave the mountain bike routes on the right and continue on the path on the left. You will come out onto the asphalt road at a fork at the end of Chemin des Vaches and continue slightly to the right. At the end of Rue du Grand Enclos, go down to the left but, after a few metres, turn right into Rue Joseph Wauters. At the corner of the "Les Amis Réunis" hall, turn left but, after a few metres, go down to the right, Rue du Crucifix, to reach the N654.

(14) Cross it with extreme caution and go down the asphalt path opposite for a few dozen metres. At a white and red metal barrier blocking a path on the right, go straight ahead down a staircase between the houses. This will take you to a street which you should follow downhill to the right to reach the centre of Comblain-Fairon. At the end of the street, turn right, then left at the Y-junction behind the church, follow the street on the right to pass to the right of Saint-Martin Church and you will come out onto Rue du Tilleul.

(15) Go down it to the left for a few metres, but just after house no. 20, go down a staircase on the right to come out onto a street which you follow to the right until you reach the banks of the Ourthe.

(16) Turn right to follow the river along a dirt track, following the yellow mountain bike route. After a long stretch between the water and the main road, you will arrive at a railway bridge and a concrete track.

(17) Pass under the railway bridge and follow the RAVeL, again following the white and red markings. Follow the concrete track to the entrance to Hamoir. You will come out onto the asphalt. Ignore the street that branches off to the right and continue straight ahead, still along the Ourthe. When the road first turns right then left, leave it and follow a path between a fence and a hedge of conifers, which will take you to a street opposite Hamoir station (E).
