Description of the walk

The start point of this walk is Zioso (see Practical Information for directions). It's a loop hike, beginning with a descent to sea level. On the return leg, of course, you'll have to climb all the way back up.

(S/E) Cross the cattle grid and descend on the wide path.

(1) Ignore a path on the right, which will be the return path. Keep going, ignoring a path from the right.

(2)At the signposted junction, turn right in the direction of Hondarribia.

(3) At the next junction, leave the track and take the left-hand path.

(4) Leave the path and head straight up the grassy slope towards Pointe Biosnar.
Descend a little way down the rocks until you see a cross (a tribute to fishermen who died at sea) in the middle of the point.

(5) Do not attempt to descend further. We recommend that you don't try to go all the way to the end of the point, as a wave higher than the others could sweep you off your feet.

(4) Go back up to the left to find the path you left, using the white and red marker posts as a guide.

(6) Go around the very pretty Sisurko cove. There's a very narrow passage with a sheer drop that may impress some people, but this spot is equipped with a rope along the wall. Continue quietly along this path.

(7) At this point (which you shouldn't miss), look out for a tiny (forgotten?) path on the right, which leads off through the ferns and undergrowth. Take it, and after a hundred meters or so, it will become much wider. Follow this path back up to the starting point.

(8) Take the time to stop for a moment and look at the various large rocks to the left and right of this spot and admire their shapes. Further on, join an intersection already passed on the outward journey.

(1) Turn left to reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

To get to the starting point by car:
From Saint-Jean-de-Luz, take the D810 to cross the border at Béhobie. Cross the bridge and, at the roundabout, turn right towards GI636 San Sebastian.
Continue on this road and take the exit on the right, following signs for Hondarribia /N638 / Aireportua (= airport).

At the roundabout, turn immediately right towards Hondarribia (take care to observe speed limits, as there are many speed cameras).
At the next roundabout, continue straight towards Hondarribia / Aireportua, staying in the left lane. You'll pass the airport.
At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit signposted Jaizkibel / Guadalupe (this is the direction you need to follow).
Do the same at the next roundabout.

At the next roundabout, go straight on (there are no signs here).
At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit towards Jaizkibel / Guadalupe / GI3440.
Continue on this narrow, winding GI3440 road for about 5 km, passing the church (this is the sanctuary of Guadalupe). Continue straight on until you reach the Zioso parking lot, which will be on your right between km 12 and km 11. This place is easily recognizable thanks to the large round stone wheel (unless it is hidden by parked cars). If all the spaces are taken, there's another parking lot a few metres ahead (Be careful when parking — the road sits higher than the dirt parking area.).

As a rough guide, you'll cover about 25 km by car.

Don't forget your water bottle.

A very beautiful walk, but over time, the path through the brambles has deteriorated considerably; bring protection for your arms and legs.

Hello,
Very nice and easy parish specific to Brittany. However, when we reached point 7, we followed the route for almost 50m, until we reached the road that was supposed to be wider, and then turned back. This section is infested with gorse and brambles, which lacerated our arms and legs....not a pleasant experience. To get back to the start, we turned back towards 6: Halfway along (at about the most inland point between 6 and 7), there is a signpost behind which a path emerges that you take with your back to the sea (but which is not indicated on the map or on the signpost). This natural path allows you to pick up part of the path from 7 to 8 much higher up.
Beware: there are a lot of horseflies on the higher parts of the route (probably due to the presence of cows and horses), whose bites on the knuckles are dreadful! It's best to wear trousers!

A walk accessible to all, with lovely views of the coast.
Whichever way you go, you'll return uphill
The path on the right after point 7 was doomed because nature had reclaimed its rights (brambles, gorse, tall ferns), so I went half way round to return near point 6 and take the path that leads upwards facing the ocean.

A lovely loop to admire the beautiful Pointe de Biosnar under a radiant sky this morning.

I can confirm that the path after the point (7) is not very well maintained and the bracken has given way to gorse and brambles, but this only lasts a few dozen metres before the path becomes passable again.

Many thanks to Pierre for this great idea for an outing.
