To get to the start, follow the D579 through Ruoms. At the roundabout, take the D557 towards Largentière - Saint-Alban-sur-Auriole - Labeaume. At the cemetery, follow Rue du Petit Bois and park at the end of the road.
(S/E) From Le Petit Bois (1 km north of the village of Ruoms), follow the main road, marked with yellow and white signs, heading north.
Just before the entrance to the farmhouse, turn right onto the path and continue north.
(1) At the fork, take the left path; you will return via the right path. The descent is over large flat stones, which are slippery in places. After a left-hand bend, you will see the upper entrance to the Grotte Grenas, a few metres above the path. A visit is a must! There is no risk of getting lost, but don't forget a torch.
Continue down the path, which bends to the right, to reach the river. Very soon, a beautiful sandbank invites you to stop and maybe even take a dip.
Follow the river as closely as possible on the left bank, always following the yellow and white markings. A few very narrow passages through the rocks require a bit of contortion. Beautiful rocky steps invite you to contemplate the landscape.
(2) The trail climbs steeply up the cliffs (yellow and white markings are very useful). Magnificent view of the Cirque de Gens. Then follow a ledge high above the Ardèche. Be careful of the drop and take care with children or people who are not used to this type of terrain!
A little further on, rocky steps allow the trail to return to the level of the river.
(3) Leave the yellow and white markings and follow a path on the right which, after passing under a wooden archway, follows a meadow along the edge of the forest (you can see the Mas du Grazel on the left). The path does not appear on the IGN map, but it does exist on the ground, although it is sometimes difficult to see.
(4) Opposite the Mas de Grazel, don't miss the right-hand turn. The path heads back in the opposite direction, gaining height. Follow the path as it climbs through the woods.
(5) Keep left as you climb up the stony track. From there, the route is clear and well marked, leading south-west to the fork you passed at the start.
(1) Take the trail in the opposite direction, following the yellow and white markings, and return to the place called Le Petit Bois (S/E).
