The Étang Chiot lake in Longny-au-Perche

This is an easy circular loop starting from Longny-au-Perche, which follows a small road and shaded paths.
Étang Chiot is not a pond but the name of a stream and a hamlet!

Description of the walk

Park in the free car park at Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.

(S/E) Take the small street (Rue Gaston Gibory) to the left of the Town Hall and turn right onto Rue du Pont Boivin.

(1) Take Rue du Port Mahon, which becomes the D290.

(2) Before the bridge over the Étang Chiot, turn left onto a dirt track opposite a house. Please note: do not take the small road before it, which leads to a farm. Continue to the hamlet of the same name.

(3) Turn right onto a path that descends to Étang Chiot. Cross the stream and climb back up to the D290 near the hamlet of Le Grand Verdereau.

(4) Take the road on the right.

(2) After the bridge, continue along the same route as on the way there.

(5) Opposite, take Venelle du Lavoir, a small alley between two houses. After crossing the wash house and the bridge over Ruisseau la Robioche, turn left onto Rue Gaston Gibory. Continue along the street to Place de l'Hôtel de Ville (S/E).

Yes, they've put a lot of tarmac on the roads, but the little roads through the Perche countryside are still very pleasant... when they're in the shade! Fortunately, there's plenty of choice when it comes to walks in the region. In this hot weather, it's best to stick to those in the woods. Enjoy your walks.

Hello, I find that this hike has too much paved road and you can't see the pond at all. Thank you

A pleasant route, but frequented by hunters who had signalled their presence.

A beautiful circular route through the village's narrow streets, then along pretty tree-lined paths, through a cool valley, and back along a quiet road. The starting point is a little tricky to find: not all the street names are signposted in the village. Should you start to the left of the town hall when facing it, or with it behind you?
Coming from the square, Rue Gaston Gibory is on the right.
The map is not very clear, as the outward route is very similar to the return route.
We also recommend passing through the municipal park along Rue du Port Mahon (signposted). A small entrance allows you to go down to it, pass in front of the old ice house and enjoy the picnic tables and other facilities.
Before returning to the street, don't forget to take a few metres' detour to visit the pretty, well-restored wash house decorated with flowers on the banks of the Robioche stream.
Thank you for this lovely walk, highly recommended!
