The Beira Alta region boasts 12 magnificent fortified villages listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Each village has an official walking route of a few kilometres (usually marked in blue and green) that takes you around the site. And here, it’s a real gem, with the most spectacular castle of the 12 villages, standing impressively on its rocky outcrop. The walk is definitely worth a detour!
