Description of the walk

(S) From the main road (Barrack Shute/A3055), follow the Coastal Path eastwards over the cliff.

(1) Turn right at the sign to descend to St Lawrence and join the Undercliff, renowned for its microclimate.

(2) In Ventnor, follow the promenade.

(3) Turn left at Bonchurch - the Coastal Path is closed at Dunnose and the Landslip. Follow the road uphill for just 100m, and at the church turn left onto a road for 50m. Turn right to take the 'Devil's Steps' (carved into the stone) to reach the top of the cliff and turn right onto the road (A3055).

(4) Stay on the road for 600m until you find a path on the right in the meadows. This will take you to Luccombe village (with a likely diversion westward) to Shanklin (E).

Practical information

Good walking shoes, a warm and waterproof jacket, sticks, food and water are recommended. The coastal path is well signposted. However, we recommend that you check your position on the map using the Visorando app. You are encouraged to use the Coastal Path diversions wherever signposted, as parts of the Coastal Path have been eroded and are not accessible.

Most of the walk is on a good track, although occasionally you will walk on a road.

There is a good bus service at all the starting and finishing points.
