Description of the walk

(S) Follow the Freshwater Bay Promenade from west to east. At the end, turn left, then right to join the Coastal Path until you cross the main road. Leave the Coastal Path (too eroded at this point), pass through a car park and join the Tennyson Trail on the right. Climb up the start of East Afton Down (dodging stray golf balls). Turn slightly right onto the Freshwater Way.

(1) Walk west along the road for a few yards and then turn left onto the Coastal Path for a long stretch.

(2) Go straight across the road to reach Chilton Farm. Turn right onto a small track to reach the centre of Brighstone (E).

Practical information

Good walking shoes, a warm and waterproof jacket, sticks, food and water are recommended. The coastal path is well signposted. However, we recommend that you check your position on the map using the Visorando app. You are encouraged to use the Coastal Path diversions wherever signposted, as parts of the Coastal Path have been eroded and are not accessible.

Most of the walk is on a good track, although occasionally you will walk on a road.

There is a good bus service at all the starting and finishing points.
