Departure from the municipal campsite below the village of Fay-sur-Lignon.
(S/E) From the campsite, head to the bridge over the Lignon.
(1) Take the path on the right (north) near the river. After about 200 m, it turns left. You will reach a three-way junction.
(2) Turn right (west) onto a slightly uphill path. The path continues straight ahead at the edge of the woods, then curves slightly to the right. Join the road (D26).
(3) Cross over to take the path opposite. You will soon reach a small road. Follow it to the left, passing the hamlet of La Poire. ThePR® continues in the same direction, still climbing very slightly (a few hunting posts), until it reaches a right-angle bend.
(4) Turn left. The climb is a little steeper (southbound), after a few small bends, you will reach the first scree slopes of Les Roches.
(5) The trail makes a quick detour to the north before heading south-west again to reach the modest (on this side) Crête des Roches. Follow it westwards, and the view opens up to the north. Leave the woods and arrive at an unfenced pasture.
(6) Continue on thePR®, join a main path and theGR® and continue left towards the south. When you reach a crossroads with four paths (including the one leading to a large farm in Roffiac), take the main path in the middle towards the south. Enter the forest (a little muddy in places) and about 400 m after the crossroads, you will reach a three-way junction.
(7) Turn right and leave the GR®. Continue through the undergrowth towards the south-west on a good, almost flat path that gradually turns north and begins to descend gently. You will then reach the edge of the forest above the Montat farm. Enjoy the view of Lake Saint-Front.
(8) Leave the track heading south and descend to the right to join the path leading to the lake, then take a narrower path to the houses of the hamlet of Lac. Follow the access road to the junction with the D263.
::9: Follow the D263 to the left for 100 metres to the car park by the lake.
You can take a break here (picnic tables) and admire the lake.
(10) Follow the road along the lake to the holiday camp.
(11) At the right-hand bend, take the path on the left towards the east-north-east, which quickly turns into a trail (private property, tolerated passage) and then branches off sharply to the east. The trail begins to climb gently. Ignore the trail on the left that comes from the hamlet of La Montat (passed earlier) and reach the junction with theGR®430.
(12) Turn right towards the south-west and after about 500 m, in the middle of a meadow, turn left towards the east (going around the grounds of the Batie farm). Cross the farm access road and follow theGR®430straight ahead, first through a meadow but very quickly into the undergrowth or the edge of the forest. Reach the track that comes from Bouchet Haut and leads to the car park at the Roches climbing site.
(13) Cross this track and follow a very rough path full of stones (according to the IGN map, these are the remains of an ancient Roman road). When you reach the hamlet of Mont Dernier, walk along a field where mobile homes are stored, then cross the hamlet of Mont Haut. After this, theGR® heads north to join the D26. Follow this road to the right towards the Lignon river.
(14) Ignore the bridge and follow the small road to the left towards the north until you reach the campsite (S/E).
very pleasant hike.!!!!
