The starting point is at the port of St Bartholoma, which can be reached by boat from Schönau am Königssee. The start is marked with a blue sign indicating trail no. 446. The time indicated on the sign is only valid up to point no. 2. From there, you will see that the signs change. To reach the end, it is advisable to wear good shoes and check the weather conditions for the previous days.
(S/E) Head west into the forest with beautiful views of Königssee. You will reach a bridge and a small chapel.
(1) Now follow the blue markings uphill. Stay on the edge of the forest and on the side of the valley, which offers beautiful views of the mountains. You will reach a sign with information about the change in markings.
(2) Continue following the red and white markings painted on the rocks on the ground. You will reach an information board explaining the geological formation (in German only). This is the last piece of information.
Important note: you can follow the riverbed to reach the chapel, but the path is more complicated.
(3) From here on, there are no more markings, so you proceed at your own risk as you have to follow the riverbed. This is where it is best to be well equipped. Continue on to reach the famous Eïs Kapelle.
(4) Retrace your steps to return to the Port St. Bartholoma car park (S/E).
